TOTSE [TOT' see] is an acronym for 'Temple of the Screaming Electron', a bay area BBS started by Jeff Hunter, aka 'Taipan Enigma', in 1989. A founding member of NIRVANAnet™, it became exclusively available on the World Wide Web in the spring of 1998. TOTSE is home to a vibrant message forum, and is reputed to host the world's largest collection of text files.

Totse.com has a strong commitment to free speech, as can be seen in the large diversity and occasionally unsavory nature of its articles, the fact that BBS members can post essentially anything as long as they do not become "trolls", and most especially that the first paragraph seen upon opening the Totse.com main page is theFirst Amendment of the United States Constitution. There are some exceptions to the free speech rule: Goatse, Outwar (a game where points are earned for number of times a link has been clicked), and, for a short time, the word "nigger" was banned due to spamming.

As of November 9, 2004, the Totse.com BBS has 29270 registered members. There are 34 individual forums on the Totse.com community bulletin board.

"Totse-isms"

Besides the usual Internet slang such as "pwned", Totse.com has many cliché rejoinders to threads whose sole purpose is to be annoying. These include:

"Too long, didn't read."

"Murder/Suicide" and its many variations, such as "Murder/Regicide" and "Condom/Spermicide".

"Viva la revolucion": A phrase used by two members who actually started a big controversy in the summer of 2004, thus banning a lot of innocent IP addresses in the process. The "revolucion" was started by the two members because the "corrupt moderators" were not obeying the rules. The phrase is still well known today, and probably always will be by the older members.

"OMFG SNOOPY IS GAY" and other various references to moderators of these forums. Most of them are un-deserved by the mods.

"Brilliant!" A phrase used almost like Pwned

"Pen0r" a word used instead of penis.
