In the Playstation game Final Fantasy 7, the Lifestream is a river of mako energy coursing through the Planet. The Lifestream is considered the blood of the Planet, which in turn is considered a collectivally concience being similar to the Oversoul of transendentalist philosophy.

The Lifestream is also considered the realm of the dead, a kind of river of souls. Indeed, the lifestream is in fact the sum of all living things on the Planet. In the game's universe, each new life is "blessed" with spiritual energy from the lifestream at birth. Upon the death of the organism, the spiritual energy returns to the lifestream, and the cycle begins anew.

Interrestingly, the Lifestream is described in mystical terms, but also in scientific terms as well. It may be thought of as the etherial equivilant of petrolium, since it is extracted and proccessed for electricity, and formed into Materia, a magical comodity in the game.

Sephiroth, the game's antagonist, tries to merge with the lifestream by forcing the Planet to concentrate a copious amount of Mako into a single "wound" created by Meteor, thereby making himself a "god".
