Felix Lope de Vega (1562-1635) was a Spanish dramatic poet, and a chief figure in the Golden Age of Spanish literature. In his many plays, which range from tragedy to farce, he was known for his ability to write for a wide range of emotions; also lauded were his character portrayals and dramatic effects. His disregard for the classic styles preceding him allowed him more free reighn with drama, and he became a great influence on later writers.
