Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties (also known as Garfield: The Movie 2 or its working title Garfield 2) is a theatrical sequel to the 2004 live-action feature film Garfield: The Movie. This film was directed by Tim Hill, written by Joel Cohen, produced by Davis Entertainment for 20th Century Fox, and was released in U.S. cinemas on June 16, 2006 (July 21, 2006 in UK). It borrows its storyline from The Prince and the Pauper.
This film was rated PG by the MPAA for "some off-color elements."
Plot
Garfield (voiced by Bill Murray) goes to the United Kingdom with canine sidekick Odie to surprise his master, Jon Arbuckle (Breckin Meyer), who is in London to propose to his girlfriend, veterinarian Dr. Liz Wilson (Jennifer Love Hewitt). Garfield switches places with Prince, a royal cat who has just inherited a castle.
In the grand estate Garfield now calls home, he receives the royal treatment, including a butler and an international array of four-legged servants and followers. Lord Dargis (Billy Connolly), who is next in line to inherit the estate, wants Prince/Garfield out of the picture.

Reception
The critical reaction to Garfield: A Tail Of Two Kitties had 88% of critics offering negative reviews on rottentomatoes.com[1]. The film has made more in foreign markets than domestic, as was expected based on the gross of the first Garfield.
As of September 17, 2006, Garfield: A Tail Of Two Kitties has earned to the date more than $28,403,409 in the U.S. Box Office, but overseas has earned more than $98,609,549 million making a total of $127,013,068 worldwide. Also in China, it holds the record for Biggest Opening for an Animated Movie.
Home release
The DVD was released on October 10, 2006. This DVD includes a "Drawing with Jim Davis" featurette and two games: Garfield's Maze, and Odie's Photo Album. It also includes a music video and trailers.

- This film was released in the UK on July 212006 where it is known simply as Garfield 2 [2]
- In Garfield: The Movie, Jon drives a green 2004 Volvo S40 sedan; In Garfield 2, Jon drives a blue 2004 Volvo V50 station wagon.
- The title is a pun on A Tale of Two Cities.
- In the movie, Jon proposes marriage to Liz, and she accepts. In the comic strip a month after this movie's release, Liz declared that she likes Jon and they began going out.
