Gordon Nixon
Gordon M. "Gord" Nixon (born 1957) is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Bank of Canada. He also serves on the company's board of directors.
His grandfather had been a director of Royal Bank of Canada. Born in Montreal, Quebec, and educated at Lower Canada College he received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen's University in 1979.
Prior to that, he had been an investment banker with Dominion Securities, remaining with the firm when it became part of Royal Bank. In 2000, he became chief executive officer of RBC Dominion Securities, now RBC Capital Markets, succeeding long-time head Anthony Fell.
He was appointed president and chief executive officer of the Royal Bank of Canada on April 1, 2001 after John Cleghorn retired.
He is married to Janet Nixon and has three children.
