Websites
Freewebs is a free web hosting service that allows users to make their own web site. There are three ways of going about this, each for users with different levels of coding knowledge. For users that have no knowledge of HTML or CSS, there are Easy Site Builder templates that allow one to edit the Site Title, Site Slogan/Tagline, and often a Site Picture/Logo (depending on the template). As of October 18, 2006, there are 42 different styles for templates, each with their own subcategories (colors, specific themes, etc.). In all, there are 341 unique layouts. For users with knowledge of CSS, a style.css file is created in the File Manager, and users may update it through the Easy Site Builder's Site Manager. For members with advanced knowledge of HTML and other codes, a downgrade to HTML-Only mode option is available. Then, the HTML Mode's Site Manager becomes similar to the File Manager, and all pages are shown as their .htm(l) files. These files can be modified using the Freewebs WebzEdit™ text editor.
There are two ways to edit a web page on one’s website. Users may either use a WYSIWYG page editor, or an HTML editor. Although the free membership does not originally contain any forced advertisements (if using the advanced HTML editor), they do require placement of a text link back to them on your website.
When editing one’s page in easy-builder mode, a toolbar allows both premium and non-premium users to add music, backgrounds, and page effects to their web site. Some effects include leaves falling on the page, rain on the page, a cursor clock, and disabling right-clicking. Users may choose to hide the page from the template's navigation bar. Premium users may choose to password protect individual pages (with a universal username/password) from this toolbar as well.
Freewebs offers users a choices when creating a web page. Although all pages are created as .htm files, the pages each have unique features such as a Blog, Form, Profile or Guestbook
