Plot

File:Squeaky Boots.jpg
Mr. Krabs welcoming SpongeBob to his office.

At Pearl's birthday, Mr. Krabs gives her some fishing boots that only cost $2. After Pearl (obviously) doesn't accept the gift, he tells SpongeBob that they're special, and are only worn by the best official fry cooks in the world. So SpongeBob gets them in exchange for his paycheck, and wears them all day and night. The squeak annoys Squidward, so he goes on vacation and Mr. Krabs fills in for him. After an unfortunate night with no sleep, involving a squeaking window, the squeak of SpongeBob's boots annoys him heaps. So much, that he steals the boots and buries them underneath the Krusty Krab. Then he feels guilty and starts to go crazy, believing that he hears nothing but the constant squeaking of the boots (every word he sees in his restaurant is even replaced by the word "squeak"). So he unburies them, shrinks them and eats them in a bout of insanity. He thinks he finally has peace and quiet and goes on vacation with Pearl, until he hiccups, making the boots (inside his body) squeak.

Quotes

  • Mr. Krabs: It's not the boots, it's the boot-ie! Err, umm, the person IN the boots! Your'e a great fry cook!
SpongeBob: Ya really think so Mr. Krabs?
Mr. Krabs: I do, son. (gives SpongeBob money) Here's your paycheck, SpongeBob. (gives more money) PLUS, a bonus! (takes bonus back) Well, there's your paycheck anyway! I need a vacation!
  • Mr. Krabs: (dancing a jig) Pearl's me daughter, she's a whale, and it's her birthday! Arrg Arrgh!
  • Mr. Krabs: What would you like?
Tom: I'll take a (squeak).
Mr. Krabs: What?
Tom: I said, I'll take a (squeak).
SpongeBob: I heard his order, Mr. Krabs, he said he wants the (squeak).
Mr. Krabs: Huh? (this leads to a montage which leads to Krabs going insane. It’s in inverted colors. We switch through scenes of a scared Krabs, the mouths of the man and Sponge, the clock that now squeaks and reads, “Squeaky Squeak”) What the-- (the menu which is in squeak language.) I didn't write that! (A distorted sink is leaking and we see faint images of Sponge and the boots and we hear Sponge say, "Could the world's greatest frycook do this? And this? and he repeats the two last words. Eventually, everything tangles together on a nauseating swirl and Krabs finally snaps)
Mr. Krabs: STOP IIIIIT! STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!!!! Don't you hear it?! Yes, I did it!! I did it!! I took the boots! They're here!! Under the floorboard!! Oh, please, make it stop!! It's the squeaking of the hideous boots!! (lifts floorboards) I'm sorry!! But I can't take the infernal squeakin' no more! (takes the boots to his office and puts them in a pot filled with some kind of acid shrinking them. Then Mr. Krabs eats them and burps) The deed is done!
  • Mr. Krabs: Spongeboy me bob!

Trivia

  • This episode is based on Edgar Allan Poe's short story, The Tell-Tale Heart. It is even a spoof where he reveals the boots, like revealed the man in The Tell-Tale Heart.
  • During a Nickelodeon movie promotion in 1999, a set of scratch and sniff stickers were released at specified fast-food restaurants to be used with certain Nicktoons. One of them was used when Mr. Krabs dropped the boots in the boiling water. Also, the symbol that signaled you to "sniff" at the bottom right part of the screen was accidentally filmed along with the episode, and not edited over until late 2002, almost 3 years after the scratch and sniff packs were put out of circulation.
  • The customer, Tom, never actually said what the order was (according to the voice actor). But, judging by his lip movements, he could be saying "squeaky squeak".
  • When Spongebob asks Mr. Krabs "Could the world's greatest frycook do this?", SpongeBob moonwalks across the floor like Michael Jackson. The second time he did this was in Squidtastic Voyage.
  • This is the second episode to feature computer-made sequences.
