Dwell is the metric used by Second Life to reward residents for creating attractions that cause users to gather in a given location. This is also used on a monthly basis for the Developer Incentives, (parodied as "Dwelloper Incentives") which Linden Lab distributes to the top-ten dwell producers.

Dwell is calculated by the percentage of time a user in Second Life spends on a plot of land in the system. Once the time a user has spent exceeds five seconds, the system notes how long after five minutes a user has spent at any location.

A user, or agent, (represented in the virtual world by an avatar) has 100 dwell points per day allocated by the system, which is then given to the locations where that user has been over the time criteria listed above. A pool of Linden Dollars is assigned to dwell payment, the proportion of payment per dwell point has not been quantified at the time of this article.

See Dwellnor for parody of this term.
