Wikipedia:Requested pictures

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by KeithTyler (talk | contribs) at 19:49, 28 January 2005 (Architecture). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

This page is a forum for requesting images from other Wikipedians for Wikipedia articles. Use this page to post requests for images that you would like to be used on a Wikipedia article. Others can then upload the images. For comments on policies, other users, technology, and other miscellaneous concerns that are not directly related to posting images, use the Wikipedia:Village Pump. You might also ask an appropriate photographer.

You may also wish to make use of the image request template in the talk page of articles where images are desired.

Using this page

Wikipedia can accept only photographs and pictures that are licensed compatibly with the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) or are in the public domain. A complete guideline of what is acceptable can be found at Wikipedia:Image use policy.

  • The simplest way to ensure that is to make them ourselves and explicitly release them under the GFDL by adding GFDL to the image description page
  • It is also possible to put your own pictures in the public domain by adding PD-release to the image page
  • Other copyright options and tags can be found at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags.
  • If you're asking someone else for permission to use their image under the GFDL license, see Request for Permission

Posting a request

Before posting, please do the following steps:

  • First try to find an image on your own. For tips, see the Wikipedia:Finding images tutorial
  • Avoid blanket requests, as, for example "need pictures for all people in the Lists of people".
  • Request images only for existing articles, i.e. if there is no article, then please write an article first before requesting.
  • Add the request here if you could not find a picture. Select an appropriate subcategory or add a proper category or subcategory in the alphabetical list.
  • Link to the article for which you would like to have the picture added, and describe what kind of picture you need. Signing the request is optional.
  • Add only one picture request per bullet.

You can also request an image by adding the image Image:No_image_yet to the article. This image is a placeholder for requested images. You may also wish to add the image request template, reqimage to the article's talk page.

If you need someone to take this photo for you, maybe one of them can do it in meta:Press_Corps by location.

Fulfilling a request

If you want to contribute an image you have taken yourself, either on film or with a digital camera, please make sure it looks optimal. Consider using graphics software such as the GIMP to enhance saturation, contrast, and sharpness (sample tutorial). You do not need to provide a thumbnail image. Please see Wikipedia:Image use policy for more advice on working with images. You can also contribute pictures not taken by you if they are available under a public domain or GFDL license. Other requested images can also be found by viewing Image:No_image_yet, and add images to articles that link to this Image:No_image_yet.

  1. Ensure that the picture is properly licensed as shown in the "Copyright Warning" above
  2. Upload the Image
  3. Add the proper Image copyright tags and a description to the image description page
  4. Link the image to the corresponding article. Images larger than should be linked as thumbnails. For a good tutorial see Wikipedia:Picture tutorial
  5. After you add the requested image, remove the request from this page.
  6. You can also add your contribution to Wikipedia:Fulfilled picture requests or list it at Wikipedia:List of images.

List of Pictures Requested

It is my opinion that that page is better without a picture. --NoPetrol 02:03, 23 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Agreed, but perhaps a link to a picture? --Alexs letterbox 04:15, 12 Jan 2005 (AEST)
  • Étrécissements
  • Lollapalooza: A band or crowd scene or something from Lollapalooza
  • Emeryville Mudflat art: Need pictures of the Emeryville Mudflat art (no longer existant). These will be old - 1960, 70, 80, early 90's. (This request is intentionally duplicated below in Place in North America.)
  • Comet Hale-Bopp could really do with some nice images, there is seemingly a great shortage of appropriately licensed images available on the web but I'm sure some wikipedians took some good photos of it. The one currently illustrating it is not great.
  • Potassium deficiency (plants) - a photo/diagram would be welcome. Pfortuny
  • Vomit c'mon, somebody's got the flu and some dedication. Meelar (talk) 23:41, 2004 Jul 20 (UTC)
  • Lesch-Nyhan syndrome not even an image of a patient but any image that would be applicable --Larsie 22:19, 9 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Nitrogen cycle diagram for aquarium - the nitrogen cycle already has a good diagram for the terrestrial cycle, but ideally I'd like to have another for the aquatic nitrogen cycle, as described in the aquarium article. Bantman 18:19, Jan 10, 2005 (UTC)
  • Aquarium diagram - schematic diagram of the construction of standard home aquaria - fresh and/or saltwater. Bantman 18:19, Jan 10, 2005 (UTC)

  • Phelonion - a vestiment for Eastern Orthodox priests. It really needs a picture - without one it's somewhat confusing, with one it would be an excellent short article. JesseW 04:33, 26 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Martin Luther King Day: Holiday is coming up very soon, and besides the lack of content, it also needs a photo.
  • Silver Ring Thing: I need a photo of one of the Silver Rings that are integral to this youth movement. There are photos out there on the 'net that I could go grab, but that would be a copyvio. If anyone knows a Silver Ring Thing kid who would be willing to have a photo taken of their ring, I'd greatly appreciate it. Kevyn 23:04, 27 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Tea stall - Any enterprising Indian Wikipedian with a digital camera out there? Preferably with benches, the shopkeeper pouring milk/tea from a vessel held as far above as possible from another vessel held in the other hand like this and people reading newspapers (if the photographic details are proper, this would easily become a featured picture, sigh! I don't have a digital camera and I don't know photography). -- Paddu 21:07, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • ndebele art. I'd like a photo of a woman painting her house in those amazing geometric designs. We don't have an article on this yet, so a photo could be used as a starting point, also it would be nice to use it to illustrate a traditional woman's role in the woman article. Theresa Knott (The snott rake) 11:23, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • A pole dance

*Gujarati script The largest Gujurat unicode font I have only has about half the characters, and a sample of actual Gujurati writing would immensely improve the article. Anárion 14:36, 22 Dec 2004 (UTC) Image from Gujarati language used. |Anárion|(Pedo!) 13:54, 26 Dec 2004 (UTC)

  • Doctor Zhivago is the WP:LCOTW article this week, and a pic would be nice. Filiocht 09:14, Nov 9, 2004 (UTC)
  • For the Monty Python article, an image from Terry Gilliam's animation Beware of the Elephants, which originally appeared on the television show Do Not Adjust Your Set. If you know where the animation or an image from it is available, please provide the source (such as a special Python DVD or a book). --brian0918 talk 16:40, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Logos & Symbols

Note: I got permission from the guys at www.vgmuseum.com to use their game pics a while ago, and started doing some of the systems listed here. However, laziness and ADD caused me to never finish. If anyone wants to go ahead and do the rest, be my guest. Lockeownzj00 05:12, 10 Aug 2004 (UTC)

For blank maps see Wikipedia:Blank maps. Public domain maps can also be generated at the DEMIS Map Server

  • It would be useful to have a good map showing detail of the coast of Suffolk, the location of "Sealand", lines designating the old and new claims of where international waters begin, and the waters that the inhabitants of Sealand claim. --Ben Brockert 05:41, Dec 20, 2004 (UTC)
    • Added a map, but no territorial claims since i could not find a good source. Feel free to update my map if needed. -- Chris 73 Talk 05:31, Jan 26, 2005 (UTC)

I looked and couldn't find a blank map of Africa. I was having a test on that for school and could have used it.

    • x2 politically-motivated image requests clearly not NPOV. Every war page could show such images, so probably best covered under its own topic. - RJH 15:09, 27 Aug 2004 (UTC). Like here, for example...
  • 2003_invasion_of_Iraq_casualties does not show a single civilian victim. Get-back-world-respect 18:13, 10 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Military

(list is sorted alphabetically by last name)

Now has Image:Early_marx_brothers_with_parents.jpg linked to it, but a solo picture of Groucho would be better, however, finding one that is PD is tricky. - redcountess 22:20, Jan 15, 2005 (UTC)
