Box Office Mojo

Box Office Mojo is a website that tracks box office revenue in a systematic way. Brandon Gray started the site in August 1998 and claims to now receive over one million monthly visitors. The forums are a popular place for box office "fanatics" and is home to several popular games (Fantasy Box Office and Create Your Own Movie). Tracking is done very close to the day by day, actual tabulation by the distributors. It is possible to see the general trend of a film's "earnings trajectory". Many stories in the general press are centered on the box office data tabulated on the site.

Scott Holleran writes the majority of movie reviews on Box Office Mojo. Some of his recent reviews, such as his review of the critically acclaimed film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, angered the site's visitors and other fans of the movie. [1][2]

He is an Objectivist, writing articles about Ayn Rand on the site and showing her influence in his reviews.

Two Box Office sites developed from members/former members of Box Office Mojo, Box Office Fanatic and World of KJ. However, both of these sites often use the numbers provided by Box Office Mojo for their discussions and analysis.

Create Your Own Movie

The Create Your Own Movie game is a forum game that allows players to create their own plots with actors of their choice and these virtual movies receive reviews from members posing as critics that base their reviews on the plot descriptions and cast lists provided by the movie's creator. The movies are given virtual box office numbers. There are many movies based on video games that have been hits, such as Final Fantasy, Super Mario, Zelda, and Chrono Trigger. There are also further extensions of franchises that already exist, such as Star Wars, Pirates of the Carribbean, and Narnia. There are also intentionally bad movies, such as Uwe Boll's traditional January bomb.

It is currently in its 15th virtual year. However, members have agreed that actors will not age. This eliminates the need to create new younger actors to develop new movies.

Fantasy Box Office

The Fantasy Box Office allows people to invest in movies based on their budgets. Each player starts with $50 million to invest.
