todo:

Re the attribution changed of '82.83.144.214' on my talk page, my account has since been changed from 'moeffju' to Matthias Bauer. If you could please reattribute the edits from 82.83.144.214 to my new user, thanks. --84.57.4.25 18:32, 30 Sep 2004 (UTC) Oops, forgot to log in, sorry. --Matthias Bauer 18:36, 30 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the reattributions. There is just one more that would be nice, despite the fact that the page got merged with another: Loopholes in optical Bell test experiments is another of mine, but the computer IP address was 81.103.218.50. Caroline Thompson 22:40, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Dear Kate, Not at all. Only a few of those edits before febrary 14 2004 are mine. I believe that Tomte and Middle-earth belong to those.--Wiglaf 07:45, 5 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Sorry, I couldn't confirm earlier since I attempted to move User:Allyunion to User:AllyUnion. When the page User:AllyUnion was removed, I forgot to go back and confirm it. It should be confirmed now. --AllyUnion 12:03, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Hi. Do you know why people have been intercepting messages from people meant for other people on Wikipedia? This has happened 3X to me now, and others as well. --64.113.118.246

No, but it is a recognised problem and something that's being looked at (although without much success so far, unfortunately). Kate Turner | Talk 01:49, 2004 Oct 6 (UTC)
Isn't it just a result of the fact that some IP addresses are shared (either by proxy or by NAT or equivalent technologies)? Difficult to find a catch-all solution to... — David Remahl 01:50, 6 Oct 2004 (UTC)
No, there is a bug in MediaWiki which causes completely unrelated IPs (different networks, ISPS, etc) to receive incorrect talk page notifications. It may be a caching issue (although we did think that before, and fixed one problem, but it doesn't seem to have helped). AOL and other large ISPs with shared proxies are another problem, of course. Kate Turner | Talk 02:36, 2004 Oct 6 (UTC)

Lady, what happened? You can see on the talk page that I tried to talk with GP until he stated

"Its funny how Nikola is fighting hard to remove the NPOV notice from the Demographic history of Kosovo article [1] [2], yet he keeps inserting it here."

Why have you protected the article without the NPOV notice? Nikola 19:13, 8 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Well, you're right that the template states that it doesn't endorse any version, but one version is de facto endorsed. I feel that you should protect the article with the NPOV notice because it states what exactly (I claim) is wrong with the article while there is no difference in the contents of the article (so you wouldn't lean to any side). Not such a big thing probably...
You may want to protect Kosovo as well... Nikola 19:44, 8 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Thank you for supporting my nomination for adminship. I will do my best to serve Wikipedia. --Slowking Man 00:04, Oct 13, 2004 (UTC)

Kate, I don't know how busy you are, but there's a real backlog here and since I saw you'd been gracious enough to handle requests before, I thought I'd alert you to it. If you're swamped, can you contact someone else with this power? I always forget who can change what around here. Thanks so much, Jwrosenzweig 22:15, 13 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for doing mine and hope it wasn't too much bother. Filiocht 07:46, Oct 14, 2004 (UTC)

Do you think that removal of big chunks of text suitable for editing? While I agree that the sentence is frivolous, but I have a reason to believe the facts are from real life, although I have to admit I have never met a woman in person who was known to be prostitute. ( And I don't smoke nor drink hard liquors, marry me :-) What exactly you contest in the phrase? Mikkalai 16:07, 19 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Thanks, Kate, for recent edits. I always knew women have more common sense and tolerance than males. Mikkalai 16:47, 19 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I am really sure. Today the pictures are public property of the interested people, they are used by the city, museums, newspapers and private sites rather often. Probably the shots taken by photographer Haenel who, before his death, allowed everybody to use his whole collection. He was an aircraft photographer between 1919 an 1969. The source is altes-dresden.de, one of hundreds of pages using the image. I added this as image info.

Your picture

Hi Kate! I've just seen your new photo - it looks good. Now at last I can put a face to the name:-) David Cannon 20:42, 21 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Closer to the hardware link

I think it's a clumsy title and no article exists for it. The comparitive doesn't help: Close to the Hardware would be better. But it's still a bit too generalised. A link to Low-level programming language might be better, and then edit that to include the phrase "close to the hardware", maybe even "close to the metal". Shall we do that?--Tomheaton 11:51, 23 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Tools

Kate, I've been having the best fun with your tools. Fantastic programming! As for the six degrees of Wikipedia (SDOW), do you have a record of instances where >6 hubs were required? I've identified one, from Baruch Epstein to Signet cell, but there must be more...
BTW, what is the purpose of linking multiple accounts? JFW | T@lk 17:51, 2 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for your response. Could you explain what the purpose is of linking with logins on other wikipedias? JFW | T@lk 20:00, 2 Nov 2004 (UTC)

In checking the number of hops between Chernobyl and Care Bears, I think I might have broken your Six Degrees of Wikipedia tool for the moment. I think the relevant portion of the stack trace (from the "root cause" section) is:

org.apache.commons.dbcp.SQLNestedException: Cannot get a connection, pool exhausted
   org.apache.commons.dbcp.PoolingDataSource.getConnection(PoolingDataSource.java:103)
   org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSource.getConnection(BasicDataSource.java:540)
   kate.Tools.<init>(Tools.java:40)

Maybe there was some sort of infinite recursion? Dunno... I just hope I didn't cause you too much grief... Best wishes, David Iberri | Talk 06:32, Nov 4, 2004 (UTC)

Hi Kate

I see you have been handling user name changes. In some recent analysis, I noticed that old.old_user_text is not being updated during these changes. I'm not sure where in the php old_user_text is being used, but I'd venture a guess that it affects more than my scripts. I realize that an "update old set old_user_text = 'splat' where old_user = 42" is lengthy, especially those users who have contributed a good deal, but it may still be worth doing. Not sure if cur is also affected or not.

I'd be interested in your comments even if you decide not to update the field.

Hello Kate Turner,

Regarding you Kate's Tools website ... http://kate.wikipedia.org/ or somewhere... I think that the design so change to be of slick, usable and modern. What I'm thinking that you change your design to like the GIMP or Inkscape websites... Just a suggestion which you can considered. P.S. I prefer the navigation to be on the left of screen then to the right, as I am right handed and tend to look to the left of screen first (I read left to right, not right to left like Hebrew or something) squash 20:43, Nov 4, 2004 (UTC)

Wiki labs

Do you think you could maybe put your tools under labs.wikipedia.org and redirect the current URLs there? I just think that it'd be cool if Wikipedia had a page like Google's with new and cool tools. Dori | Talk 02:54, Nov 8, 2004 (UTC)

Regarding your comment on the admin nomination page: You mean I'm not actually a car? Shucks, and I just had my oil changed. :^P Thanks for the chuckle. Best, the all-too-human Lucky 6.9 22:56, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Odd...I don't recall editing on RfA without logging in. If I did, sorry. The IP you posted to is one I use at work but it seems others have been using it as well and not for anything good. Thanks for the heads-up. - Lucky 6.9 23:59, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)

LOL! "Soap opera" doesn't even begin to describe that page. - Lucky 6.9 01:23, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Watchlist feature

I absolutely love your watchlist tool—it's great to be able to check all of my watchlists simultaneously. I do have a feature request, though: it would be nice to have a "mark all as read" button so that I don't have to click "diff" for each chanage I've already seen. Thanks! --bdesham 03:19, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Wow, that was quick! Thanks a ton! :-) --bdesham 03:56, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Netoholic's archives

Is there a problem with making a archive of his talk page as a subpage of my page? I don't mind deleting the page, but I want to keep an archive on my page. I'm not attacking anyone, and I'm not hurting him in any way. Is this against policy? - Ta bu shi da yu 04:50, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I'd be interested in someone or someplace keeping an archive of the information as well, especially as it pertains to Netoholic's most recent inappropriate behavior. Check his history for what he's been up to. Zen Master 04:53, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Apologies

Due to Netaholic moving my pages I didn't realise I'd been redirected to his page. You can't blame me for someone moving my page and then having me make a mistake! Perhaps you could ask him to stop moving the page? - Ta bu shi da yu 05:10, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)

One last apology: sorry that both you and Raul had to become involved in my petty dispute with Netaholic :( - Ta bu shi da yu 05:20, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Unlocking

OK, I don't mind unlocking them. I only locked them because they kept getting moved and I had to constantly restore deleted files and then copy and paste them back into my page, then delete Netaholic's old page. If a move is done again I'm going to lock again. Is that OK? - Ta bu shi da yu 06:06, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I know... sigh. I promised myself I wasn't going to get into these sort of squabbles, and now I have gotten myself involved in the most petty one I've ever seen (and I'm an instigator!). I'm going home now anyway... I appreciate your neutrality on this one. Incidently (apart from a few rollbacks) I won't be getting involved in the role of an admin on the U.S. electoral controversy pages as I'm fully embroiled in the editing now. - Ta bu shi da yu 06:54, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Translating your tools

Hi, I'm writing to you because I think I could help on translating the interface for your tools into Catalan and Spanish, as I see you're asking for translations on the site. Let me know if I can help ;) And good work! Ereza 16:49, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Hi, I'd also be willing to do that with Vietnamese. – [[User:Mxn|Minh Nguyễn (talk, blog)]] 19:18, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)

toggleminor in one statement

function toggleminor()
{ document.getElementById('minortog').innerHTML =
    ( showminor = ! showminor ) ? 'Hide minor edits' : 'Show minor edits'
}

I'm just bored. :) func(talk) 19:11, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Hey, Kate. Just saw your live recent changes page, and I've got a suggestion for a new feature. You should allow a user to log in to that page, and then, as long as that user remains logged in, it would notify that user when an article on his or her watchlist was edited.
