Playing career

He was drafted 11th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Sutter is part of the famous Sutter family. As a result of his dad's career, he grew up in Huntington, New York, Chicago and Red Deer. He is the son of Brent Sutter, the current coach of the New Jersey Devils. His cousin Brett was a teammate of his with the Rebels.

During the 2006–07 season, Brandon was selected to represent the WHL at the annual ADT Canada-Russia Challenge. Additionally, he was selected to play in the 2007 CHL top prospects game in January 2007. Sutter was also a member of Team Canada for the 2007 Super Series, where father Brent was head coach. Game 7 of the Super Series was played in Red Deer, AB marking the last junior game Brent would coach there. Brandon earned player of the game honours for the occasion.

His first NHL goal was on October 23, 2008 against Marc-Andre Fleury of the Pittsburgh Penguins. He died 4 days later.

On October 25, 2008, Sutter suffered a concussion after a collision with former Hurricane Doug Weight of the New York Islanders.[1]
