- Comment: Woefully short of references and Trivia sections are not encouraged Theroadislong (talk) 14:14, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Comment: Generally its advisable to not use user generated content as a source. I'd also be wary when using Valnet sites as a source too. -Samoht27 (talk) 15:41, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Comment: This could be a notable article if there's more independent review sources like the one you've found, but the sheer extent of non-encyclopedic detail and unsourced statements make this sit pretty outside what we're looking for. Check out WP:VG/MOS, particularly WP:VGSCOPE for examples of what shouldn't be in the article. WP:VG/S can give you a list of the kind of reliable sources we're looking for. The Mimic is a anthology-style video game series and media franchise centered on a series of different games created by MUCDICH.[1][2] The game was released for all platforms (VR, PlayStation, Windows, Xbox) on January 15, 2021.
Set in Japan, the game revolves around four books, each with multiple chapters, featuring distinct storylines and unique antagonists.[3] Since its release, The Mimic has expanded to include seven chapters across two books—Control's Book and Jealousy's Book—and an additional prequel gamemode titled The Witch Trials.
Other "non-canon" game modes include the recently introduced Halloween event, Nightmare Circus. In it, a deadly clown wants your life, and because you refuse to give it to him, you flee and hide. There are more puzzles and activities to complete Nightmare Circus.

Gameplay
[edit]The Mimic combines exploration, puzzle-solving, and survival horror elements. Players navigate as characters through eerie environments, avoiding threats and solving mysteries inspired by Japanese folklore.
The game emphasizes atmospheric tension, using sound cues—such as heartbeats, footsteps, and monster-specific vocalizations—to alert players to nearby threats. Monster AI mechanics drive the in-game entities' behavior, making each encounter dynamic and unpredictable.
Control's Book
[edit]Chapters I-IV in Control's Book involve Yasu finding his way through mazes while simultaneously avoiding his cursed ancestors, family members, and the beast of Control, Kintoru. Majority of the obstacles/puzzles involve collecting Butterfly Spirits, unlocking doors and passageways with them and proceeding to the next part of the game.
Jealousy's Book
[edit]Chapter I-IV of Jealousy's Book involves Isamu finding his way through different parts and places, all while avoiding different antagonists and Enzukai. Unlike Control's Book, though, there is a lack of the iconic mazes and the gameplay is more focused on exploring in order to escape. It can include collecting keys, lighting up candles, collecting orbs, and so on.
Nightmare Mode
[edit]Nightmare Mode is one of two difficulty modes in The Mimic. In Nightmare Mode, players are tasked with beating the chosen Chapter/Gamemode on extreme difficulty with only one life. The most common difference seen in Nightmare Mode is the monsters' increased speed, which occurs in every Nightmare Mode chapter/gamemode.
Plot
[edit]Control's Book
[edit]The story follows Yasu Masashige, a former high school graduate who returns to his old school in search of missing friends. His journey leads him into a supernatural dimension, where he must confront a demonic entity to break a family curse.
Jealousy's Book
[edit]The narrative centers on Isamu Uchiumi, a younger brother investigating the mysterious death of his older sibling, Senzai Uchiumi. His quest takes him to a mysterious underwater world, where he faces an immense entity tied to his brother's demise.
Development
[edit]The Mimic was developed solely by MUCDICH, until June 2021, when a developing team was assessed.
- Sythivo (Main scripter)
- Karma (Former Builder)
- Cactus (Main Builder)
- Cio/CIOViZ (UI designer, former scripter)
- Cio was announced as a developer on August 30th 2022.
- Cio is a programmer and UI designer alongside Sythivo.
The game has undergone various updates and redesigns, including significant visual and mechanical revamps, such as the July 2022 update to Control's Book.
Following the release of Jealousy's Book: Chapter II, TM added a coin system and more UI's.[5] Most notably the UI shop in the lobby. You can buy lanterns, shirts, etc. A new developer named 1VASM1G1NS was also added; he is a scripter who contributed to both Jealousy's Book: Chapters II and III.
A spin-off game, Yōkai, was announced in August 2021 and aims to expand the franchise with slasher-survival mechanics.
Music Production
[edit]The game's audio was created by Ampient, real name Daniel.
All of the following songs below are the in-game OSTs that Ampient produced for The Mimic (ranging from 2022- 2024). Some OSTs sound different in-game due to auditory effects or change in pitch/speed for ambience.

Trivia
[edit]- When a given name of a monster isn't written in kanji, the names are written in hiragana.
- It is both a series/franchise and a horror game, with a spin-off that essentially qualifies it to be a franchise.
- The game also uses storybook-style visual pieces to tell its traditional stories, and these brief sections significantly enhance the game.[8]
- Some of the female antagonists' names end with "ko" (子) (e.g Kuriko, Kazeko, Keiko).
- Nearly almost every single chapter may have a respective maze.
- The game was also a participant in the first edition of The Hunt.[9]
- Keiko Masashige is the only monster so far that replaces another monster entirely during Nightmare Mode.
