Ethel Kennedy (née Skakel; April 11, 1928 – October 10, 2024) was an American activist and politician. She was the widow of Robert F. Kennedy. She had eleven children together; including Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Christopher G. Kennedy, Joseph P. Kennedy II and Rory Kennedy.
Skakel was born on April 11, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois. She studied at Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart in 1945.
Skakel met Robert while he was dating her sister. On June 17, 1950, Robert and Ethel married in Greenwich, Connecticut. They had eleven children. Two of their children died.
In 1968, shortly after her husband's assassination, Kennedy founded the non-profit organization Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights.
Kennedy supported Barack Obama during his 2008 campaign.[1]
On October 3, 2024, Kennedy was hospitalized after suffering a stroke in her sleep.[2] She died one week later on October 10, 2024 in Boston, Massachusetts at the age of 96.[3]
