Hastings Lionel Ismay, 1st Baron Ismay KG GCB CH DSO PC (21 June 1887 – 17 December 1965), nicknamed Pug, was a British Indian Army officer and diplomat.

He was Winston Churchill's chief military assistant during the Second World War and he was the first Secretary General of NATO from 1952 to 1957. Ismay was the principal link between Churchill and the Chiefs of Staff Committee. Ismay also accompanied Churchill to many of the Allied war conferences.
