Aidan McAnespie (196521 February, 1988) was an Irish Catholic who was killed in contested circumstances from a bullet discharged from a weapon in control of British soldiers at a border checkpoint during The Troubles in Northern Ireland.

Charges were initially brought against a soldier for manslaughter but were dropped prior to prosecution. McAnespie's family allege a cover-up by the British state.

The incident was investigated by both the RUC and the Gardai with no evidence of anything other than an accidental discharge being the cause of death[1]. Despite this, Aidan's family, human rights groups and the Catholic Cardinal of Ireland Tomas Ó Fiaich have described Aidan's death as murder. [2][3]
