Revision as of 20:03, 1 November 2020

This page is for AWB'ers who can't find anything to put it to use on, or who would like to help others with this powerful tool.

Below are tasks for which a page-autoloader with various capabilities would be especially useful. That is, the people posting these tasks need the help of AWB'ers! If you have AWB, please lend a hand. Note that Link Ninja may also be useful for completing the tasks on this list (see WP:OTS#Tabs and tabbing).

Please note that Wikipedia:Bot requests sometimes has one-time tasks which can be done easily using AWB. Similarly, issues at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Working/Manual#Multiple merge targets can also usually be handled with AWB.

See also Wikipedia:WikiProject Check Wikipedia.

Request to tag categories for merging

Would someone be willing to copy the tag on Category:21st century BC in the arts to all category pages listed in this nomination? Thank you in advance! Marcocapelle (talk) 05:14, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@JJMC89: You didn't use AutoWikiBrowser? 𝟙𝟤𝟯𝟺𝐪𝑤𝒆𝓇𝟷𝟮𝟥𝟜𝓺𝔴𝕖𝖗𝟰 (𝗍𝗮𝘭𝙠) 18:19, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Addition of a comment containing the template names to the templates listed in the box at [1]

In order for bots, Twinkle and RedWarn to be able to tell whether or not a person has already been warned with a level-n template, the templates need a comment within them, stating which template they are. Refer to uw-vandalism1: It contains the text uw-vandalism1, in comment tags. It would be helpful if all the uw templates had said comment, just with the template name instead of uw-vandalism1. However, please make sure you only change the templates in the box labeled "Extended content" or "User warnings with no identifiers, and edit request". Thank you for your consideration. Opalzukor (talk) 08:26, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Opalzukor: Hi. exactly what changes do you want? And to which pages? Also, is there a consensus for these changes? —usernamekiran (talk) 11:00, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Usernamekiran: Adding a comment to each template in the list, containing the name of that template; for example, uw-plotsum1 should contain a comment saying "uw-plotsum1". There seems to be consensus at Wikipedia talk:Template index/User talk namespace#Machine-reading friendliness. Opalzukor (talk) 15:02, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Opalzukor: got it. That task would require someone with template editor + AWB access. Even though I don't have access to template editing, I can look at the discussion/desired changes, and come up with regex or whatever is required. I didn't see the discussion thoroughly, but is there a consensus regarding the wording, placement, and other stuff? —usernamekiran (talk) 15:12, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Opalzukor: Hi. There are AWB users already involved in the editing discussion :) —usernamekiran (talk) 16:10, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Usernamekiran: Oops. Sorry for your time. Opalzukor (talk) 16:13, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Opalzukor: lol, no need to say sorry, and no worries. See you around :) —usernamekiran (talk) 18:46, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Cossak and Cossac=> Cossack

As you can see here, it seems to be quite a common misspelling. Same goes for Cossac.--Catlemur (talk) 11:35, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have fixed over 40. But neither David Cossak nor Chief of Staff to the Supreme Allied Commander (COSSAC) are typos. There are some typos in there, but too many false positives for AWB's typo list. ϢereSpielChequers 07:34, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I see, thank you.--Catlemur (talk) 18:07, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

All films

Special:Search/"All films, he was producer unless otherwise noted." has quite a few search results; however, this is not correct English. I suggest the phrase be simply replaced by "In all films, he was producer unless otherwise noted." 𝟙𝟤𝟯𝟺𝐪𝑤𝒆𝓇𝟷𝟮𝟥𝟜𝓺𝔴𝕖𝖗𝟰 (𝗍𝗮𝘭𝙠) 18:43, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@1234qwer1234qwer4: "In all films, he was producer unless otherwise noted." sounds a bit weird too. Would you like to go with that or use "He was a producer in all films unless otherwise noted." instead? Chlod (say hi!) 18:51, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) These results are listed under Filmography sections and are in italics (that means it is not part of the article prose). Because of that, it is not required to be perfect English and should be written more like a hatnote than a sentence. Given that, I think it would be appropriate to simply change the notes to "He was producer unless otherwise noted". However, because it is used so much, some time should be spent finding out why, there could be a reason. Footlessmouse (talk) 18:58, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at a few samples of those pages, the edits seem to have been inserted by IPs so it looks like there's not much reason behind the badly-worded hatnotes. In that case, should I go with 1234qwer1234qwer4's initial suggestion then? Chlod (say hi!) 19:02, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I like that more, yes. 𝟙𝟤𝟯𝟺𝐪𝑤𝒆𝓇𝟷𝟮𝟥𝟜𝓺𝔴𝕖𝖗𝟰 (𝗍𝗮𝘭𝙠) 19:03, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
About that, as Footlessmouse said above, the piece of text is supposed to represent a hatnote and not article prose. If I end up using this wording, I'll bring it out of italics. Is that alright? Chlod (say hi!) 19:05, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think that works, that will just serve as the first sentence of an intro to each of the sections, which others can expand later. Footlessmouse (talk) 19:09, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
 Doing... Got it. I'll make the changes now. Chlod (say hi!) 19:11, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
