I rarely make content contributions to English Wikipedia. Most of my activity here consists of gnomery and various maintenance tasks. I sometimes visit any WMF wiki and clean up Lint errors there.
See the kaleidoscopic borders around this page? If you have seen similar borders used by others, there's a very good chance that mine is the root for it. Feel free to fork and use it as you see fit.
2014 – October 2020: After occasional IP editing, created this account and rarely logged in to edit. Was mostly active in other language wikis.
November 2020 – March 2021: Fix bogus file option Lint errors in different namespaces.
December 2020 – Novemeber 2022: Work to eliminate obsolete html tag Lint error backlog in mainspace. Error count reduced from 2.5 lakh to zero in this period due to collective effort of gnomes and bots.
March 2021: Cleared all Lint errors from the (now defunct) Education Program talk namespace.
April 2021: Fix Lint errors in TFA archives. Cleared all Lint errors from Category namespace.
April 2021 – May 2021: Fix Lint errors in WP:DYK pages with a few other gnomes to eliminate 99% of Lint errors in Template namespace.
May 2021 – June 2021: Eliminated obsolete html tag Lint errors in Portal namespace. Fixed Lint errors in File namespace and User editnotices.
June 2021: Removed redundant interlanguage links in templates.
June 2021 – June 2022: Aggressively hunt down Lint errors using MalnadachBot. About 1 crore 23 lakh Lint errors were fixed by the bot in 37 lakh edits.
July 2022: MalnadachBot task 13 was approved to blank old IP talkpages, which is the largest bot task in Wikipedia's history in terms of number of pages edited. On 3 January 2023, the bot crossed the 10 million edits mark, becoming the first account in English Wikipedia to reach this milestone.
November – December 2022: Coordinate a cleanup of thousands of obsolete entries in Special:ProtectedTitles with Primefac. This was done offwiki due to the Streisandy nature of some of the work.
December 2022: Complete the tedious TFD of {{Auto archiving notice}} which had been pending for 19 months.
January 2023: Track down and categorize all existing Kannada language film posters. Resume MalndachBot Task 12 with a substantially improved code.
January–February 2023: Complete the extremely tedious merger of {{Infobox name module}}, which had been pending for 70 months.
If I have more time to spare, I hope to get more involved with code contribution. So far I have one successfully merged patch to MediaWiki and two patches to Twinkle.
Thoughts
WP:BOLD is the best thing about Wikipedia. If you have a way to improve Wikipedia, do you it yourself instead of hoping others will do it. Wikipedia wouldn't have grown this much otherwise. Don't be a process wonk following bureaucracy for bureaucracy's sake. Engaging in discussion and getting "consensus" beforehand is not necessary for 99% of things in Wikipedia.
Two decades into the project, Wikipedia needs more maintainers and gnomes than content creators. Never let any of the so called valuable content creators think they are above you. There are lots of ways to contribute to Wikipedia. Any valuable content creators trying to belittle your work? Ignore these people having delusions of grandeur and continue with your work. Remember the Wikipedia logo, as long as you can contribute a jigsaw piece to construct the globe, your contribution is as valued as every other user who contributes a piece.
Do not apply for anything at WP:PERM. Only accept user rights if recommended by other users or an administrator asks you on their own. Not your loss if bureaucracy stands in the way of contributing more to the project.
An obvious extension of the above point is to never even think about running for WP:RFA unless there are drastic changes to the RFA atmosphere. RFA currently functions as if it is a vetting process for sainthood, not having access to a mop and bucket cupboard. Currently having a non-Roman username can sink an RFA on its own anyway.
WMF wikis are global projects, bowing down to Anglo imperialism by getting renamed to a Roman username for the convenience of English speakers is absolutely out of question.
English Wikipedia needs to have a community desysop process. Many admins have passed RFA appearing as a paragon of virtue only to show their real faces afterwards. A community desysop process will cut down on abusive power mongers living in their ivory towers lording over the great unwashed masses. This has worked in other language wikis, the excuses brought up that it won't work in English is just circling of wagons by people who want to continue lording over the great unwashed masses.
While WMF should not interfere in content issues and day-to-day running of Wikipedia such as in WP:FRAMBAN, they should be far more assertive in technical areas than they are currently. Many parts of the site is severely outdated due to having too many luddites in the community who oppose every useful change as a solution in search of a problem. These people are too short-sighted to know what is good for the project and should be dragged kicking and screaming to the current era. If this drives off many of the old guard from the project, so be it and totally worth it. Nobody is irreplaceable and their ranks will be filled by new users who will benefit from the changes.
Thanks for the repetitive and often overlooked gnomish-type of edits you do. The work is much appreciated! GenQuest"scribble" 23:24, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

This barnstar is awarded to ಮಲ್ನಾಡಾಚ್ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣೊ and their bot for fixing literally millions of Linter errors.
