The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy is a fighting game based on the television series of the same name. It was developed by High Voltage Software and published by Midway. The Playstation 2 version's DVD compatibility feature came with behind the scenes footage and the season one episode Little Rock of Horror. The game was released on many Nintendo consoles in the United States, but only on the Wii in the United Kingdom.

Storyline

When Grim's Mojo Balls get unleashed into the city, causing normal people to senselessly fight each other (anyone touched by a Mojo Ball will be infected by supernatural rage, according to Grim), it's up to Billy, Mandy, Grim, and Irwin to save the world. They trek through places from their episodes such as Asgard, the pumpkin patch, even Billy's backyard. In the end, it turns out that Billy is to blame for the release of the Mojo Balls (he wanted to free Moe and Joe) and is severely punished by Mandy in the end credits (she mentioned that she wondered if the game had a mode which she and the others could just beat on Billy).

Gameplay

The gameplay slightly resembles that of Power Stone. In the game, you can execute light and heavy style attacks. Gameplay includes 2-4 player Multiplayer, solo, and co-op Story Mode and Mission Mode. The environment is very interactive, with the ability to manipulate many objects. There are different weapons scattered through all the levels, such as a halberd or a club. Treasure chests contain a variety of items including weapons, cupcakes, hamhocks (which restore health), and Mojo Balls that fill up your Mojo Meter. When the Mojo Meter fills once, a Mojo Smackdown can be performed, where the character attacks the opponent with a barrage of punches, kicks, and slaps, finally destroying the opponent with a piledriver. When the Mojo Meter fills twice, a Mojo Meltdown can be performed, instantly knocking out all opponents. Each round of fighting begins with banter from each character on the playing field. An opponent isn't fully defeated until their lives are depleted AND the player or another opponent attacks them and delivers four blows against that opponent, knocking them out of the arena fully. In Story Mode, the game culminates with a battle against the brain-eating meteor from Little Rock of Horror.

Trivia

  • The game has many references from Big Boogey Adventure.
    • The Billybot and Mandroid alternate costumes of Billy and Mandy respectively are the same Billybot and Mandroid from the film
    • Boogey is present in this game and his alternate costumes (Pirate and Lawyer) are the same ones from the film
    • Boogey uses Horror's Hand in his Mojo Meltdown Move, despite that Horror's Hand is also a separate one-handed melee weapon
    • Fred Fredburger appears in a Hawaian costume.
    • Scenes from the movie are available as arenas or unlockable concept art.
    • The Bask-Eye-Ball Mode is based on the Cyclops duo from the film
    • Dracula appears in a disco costume.
    • Jack's character image is his image from the film.
    • The image of Horror's Hand in Boogey's mojo meltdown move is taken from the film (the hand shrieking when it sees that Grim is already living through his nightmare.)
    • While loading Boogey Down the River, a picture of Boogey is the same one as in the movie when Billy was singing Scary-O.
  • Dracula's Mojo Meltdown consists of disco dancing, similar to in Home Of The Ancients.
  • General Skarr's Mojo Smackdown move consists of him slicing his victim with an "S" in a Zorro-like fashion.
  • Eldridge-Johnson Mayer appears along with Cerberus (since he appears dormant in every other episode besides The Taking Tree), where hitting him will usually make him spit out a Mojo Ball, a birdbath, or a grill.
  • The announcer of the game is "Weird Al" Yankovic, who has played the Squid Hat in the Nigel Planter episodes of the show.
  • The giant Fluffy Cat from He's Not Dead, He's My Mascot appears in "Coliseum of Chaos", where throwing someone or jumping onto him 3-5 times will make him cough up a hairball with a Mojo Ball, or a power loader inside.
  • At least once in most levels, Pud'n can be seen tied to something, or in some other form of peril. Pud'n can be seen in a hole in "The Mead Hall", on a plank in "Down Under", sitting on a platform in "The Parapets", tied to the mast in "Boogey Down The River", stuck to the higher wall with some kind of gooze in the Chicken Mines, and sitting on a jar of eyeballs in "The Desk".
  • Sperg can also be seen three times during "Deep in Evil", crammed in a doghouse inside Nergal's home in "Down Under", floating on the lava in the same doghouse in "The Parapets", and in the following cutscene.
  • At "The Desk", you can see a checker board with Nigel Planter and Lord Moldybutt pieces. This references Nigel Planter and the Chamber Pot of Secrets. Another reference to that episode is that there's a distinctive split in Toadblatt's desk.
  • In the beginning of Orange Terror, there is a gravestone with "M. Atoms" on it. It stands for Maxwell Atoms, who created the show.
  • Jack's Mojo Meltdown is a pumpkin bomb like Hobgoblin's and the Green Goblin's pumpkin bombs from Spider-Man. (Courtesy of Marvel Comics Inc.)
  • Billy was saying "Destroy us all!" in the ending credits like in Attack of the Clowns.
  • The music in the credits of the game is "Into The Darkness" by SPF1000 from Battle of the Bands.
  • Billy said he wanted to free Moe and Joe, which are the names of the Komodo Brothers from Crash Bandicoot.
  • When Skarr beats a Nergling he says "Gotta Catch 'em All", this is a reference to the logo of Nintendo's popular video game/anime/manga series Pokemon
  • Mogar, Eris, Nergal and Fred Fredburger are free in vs mode but unlockable in story mode.
  • Mogar's fishing costume uses a swordfish instead of a guitar.

Goofs

  • Grim's Clown costume has green hair pointing from the sides instead of an orange and yellow beehive.
  • In the character selection menu, Mandy's clown costume has a nose but in the battle, it wasn't there.
  • Dracula's pointed teeth don't show up while battling.
  • If you perform Boogey's meltdown with the sound effect off, the sound is still on.
  • Hoss Delgado's hair is light brown instead of red however the same goof appears on the Billy and Mandy Cartoon Network page and boogie adventure.
  • In Fred's bio, his special ability said he could stick three fingers in his belly button. But in Be A-Fred, Be Very A-Fred,and a CN commercial, he said he could stick two fingers in his belly button.
  • Every time Fred swings up in his finishing moves, the chosen opponent gets hit down.
  • If you perform General Skarr's meltdown, you'll notice that the "Automatic Stabbin' Flabber" is actually the pink robot that Skarr used to try and steal Grim's scythe in Skarred for Life, not the green robot with lots of daggers.
  • Jack, oddly, is voiced by Maurice LaMarche instead of Wayne Knight.
  • Fred Fredburger's costume in Big Boogey Adventure is purple. But in the game, Fred Fredburger's costume is orange.
  • Billy's Billybot costume's nose only flashes: Yellow, blue and red, however, in Big Boogey adventure, it onlys flashes Red and Yellow, and it stays pink when not flashing, in the video game it stays yellow.
  • Mogar's fishing costume uses a swordfish instead of a guitar, but makes the noises of a guitar.
