Cartoonish content

[edit]

We need some non-Armenian editors have a look at the content. It is beyond silly and does nothing to explain what exactly happened during World War I.

Add

[edit]

I edited some stuff on this page because I felt it didn't focus on the significance of the event itself in 1915. However, if some feel its lacking the physical characteristics of the region itself, feel free to add that.--MarshallBagramyan 07:55, 3 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinates?

[edit]

Can someone provide coordinates of the mountain so I can find it on services like Google maps?

Thanks. Penedo 23:50, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

The mountain range is about 25 kilometers west of Antioch, Turkey. In Turkish, its known as Musa Dagi. Try using Google Earth since it can be found more easily.--MarshallBagramyan 23:46, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In Turkey, Antioch is called as Antakya and has also another name,which is more familiar , is Hatay. Most further villages to the Musa Dagh are Vakıflı, Yoğunoluk , etc.

Thanks, I looked it up roughly according to the map included in the Wikipedia entry and am not sure I could make the right mountain. Is there somewere I can buy a current topographic map of the area (I can't read Turkish but maybe with the latin writing I'd be able to make out the names). Also - is there any precise information about the exact positions of the villages? Am I right to assume that they villages are gone? (I'm still reading the book now). Penedo 06:19, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

The villages aren't gone, they are just known with their Turkish name, in example:
  • Wakef is Vakıflı;
  • Kaboussieh (or Kebusiye) is Kapısuyu;
  • Hıdır Bek is Hıdır Bey;
  • Yogohonoluk is Yoğunoluk;
  • Hablak (or Hedj Habibli) is Hacı Habibli or Eriklikuyu;
  • Bitias (or Bityas) is Batı Ayaz or Teknepınar;
  • Yezur is Azir.
I don't know which one is Khodr Bey, altough ..
I have been to Batı Ayaz (I didn't hear anyone calling it Teknepınar, bar in the maps), and it is truly a very nice place.--Alessandro Riolo (talk) 21:01, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Arabic

[edit]

Is it normal that the Arabic version of Musa Dagh and its English transliteration do not correspond? It is "Musa Dagh" in Arabic while the English transliteration says "Jebel Musa". Dagh is not an Arabic word so Jebel Musa is much more accurate. --Davo88 (talk) 06:07, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Grammar

[edit]

There is something wrong with this sentence: "The denizens of that region had been given an official order from the Turkish government where they became violently expelled from their six villages (Kabusia (Kaboussieh), Yoghunoluk, Bitias, Vakef, Kheter Bey (Khodr Bey), Haji Habibli) by the Ottomans in 1915." Anyone knows what did the author intend to say? Opole.pl (talk) 19:59, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Casualties

[edit]

The Ottoman losses are shown between 8-15 thousand without citing a source. This seems like an exaggeration to say the least. Even if 3-9 thousand were killed by French bombardment (it is also claimed), it means that about 5 thousand Ottoman soldiers were killed by irregular Armenians on the mountain. It seems too much fanaticism to write that a few hundred irregular militiamen killed thousands of soldiers on the mountain with only 18? casualties. However, I still don't find it right to delete it right away. I mentioned the lack of resources, if it is supported by reliable sources (if possible, without the unprovable Armenian eyewitness statements), the template I left can be deleted.
