Name origin
[edit]I've removed the reference to the name meaning "lip-stinger". While it was cited, there is no way that Piquepoul means this in French. "Pique" could be some local derivative of incorrect French "to sting" but "poul" means "hen" and no aspect of this makes sense other than it being a Francofied loan word. As the grape is native to DO Pla de Bages in Catalonia, a Catalan name origin makes a great deal more sense as "picapoll", the name in Catalan can be broken down in countless ways and the "poll" could be fleas as a reference to the shape of the grape bunches. Keep in mind that where this grape is grown is a region that used to speak Catalan and/or Occitan so it's probably more the case that Piquepoul is a derivation of the original word from one of these languages.Primecoordinator (talk) 19:25, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
Picpoul de Pinet
[edit]I removed sentence that was off-topic (vermouth production, instead of this wine type, made specifically from the variety); referred incorrectly to "Picpoul de Pinet varietal", instead of "Picpoul Blanc variety". This post seemed like a stretch, more to promote a particular brand (Noilly-Pratt, as if it is unique in using this grape), rather than educate or enlighten about the wine grape variety. Picpoul Wines
