Orphaned references in Christine and the Queens

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Christine and the Queens's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 15:36, 22 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New stage name

[edit]

Hello.

I read on the French Web site Pure charts that she had changed her stage name in 2018. It was Christine and the Queens previously and it is CHRIST̶I̶N̶E̶ ̶A̶N̶D̶ ̶T̶H̶E̶ ̶Q̶U̶E̶E̶N̶S̶ now . On the images of the YouTube audios of her new single "Damn, tell me" (French version) and "Girlfriend" (English version), this is the same name. Others Web sites speak of a new stage name as "Chris".

4 new singles in 2018?

[edit]

Hello,

According to the french web site Pure Charts, Damn, dis-moi / Girlfriend is the new single. But, 3 other songs are presented as singles : Doesn't Matter (voleur de soleil) / Doesn't Matter, 5 dollars and La marcheuse[1]. Are they really all singles? 2 of thes esongs were sent to radio : Damn, dis-moi / Girlfriend and La marcheuse. Can we say that these two songs are singles? And can we say that Doesn't Matter (voleur de soleil) / Doesn't Matter and 5 dollars are promotional singles? Land and travel (talk) 08:14, 26 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A rough translation of fr::Christine_and_the_Queens#Vie_privée I'll leave it here for a day or two for any suggestions, then move it onto the article page Somej (talk) 07:09, 2 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Vie privée

[edit]

Private Life and Inspirations

[edit]

In March 2015, Letissier told the fr::Terrafemina magazine that she defines herself as pansexual. She said of the London drag clubs: "These drag artists have become my friends, they've inspired my creativity. They gave me the idea of creating a character, inventing another silhouette, another way of being in this world. Before it was a musical project, Christine was for me the answer to how to live properly. The Queens in Christine and the Queens is my tribute to them. Without the queens, I wouldn't be here".[3]

Page move

[edit]

This page was moved from Christine and the Queens to Redcar (singer) because this is supposedly his new artist name. This was done hastily, without accounting for all the other articles still using the old name, and ignoring the fact that major sources still call his project Christine and the Queens as recently as a week ago, even when referring to the Redcar alias: "Christine and the Queens: Redcar les Adorables Étoiles review – clouds of sorrow from the artist’s new persona | Music | The Guardian" Artists use alternative aliases all the time, it is a stretch to say this is a change worthy of page moving just a week after this name change was first announced. Did we change Snoop Dogg to Snoop Lion, or Kanye to Ye? This is a totally improper move, and if the mover wants to attempt this move again, they should undertake the proper RM process rather than unilaterally moving the page. Criticalus (talk) 15:35, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Criticalus I looked at it again and found that you didn't change the group name. Although it is now labeled as He. No need to move. Dušan Kreheľ (talk) 19:47, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Dušan Krehe I have reverted one of your recent edits, you are using improper English and also incorrect pronouns. Not in a gender sense, but in which pronoun to use. The possessive male pronoun is his, not him. Please use correct English when editing in mainspace.

Naming

[edit]

I don't understand the choice of the editors of this page : this artist has never been known as Letissier nor Héloïse Letissier, but as Christine and the Queens. Now, in september 2024, some french national medias (such as France TV[1], L'Équipe[2] or Libération[3]) refer to him as Rahim Redcar, as he wants to be named.[4] Why keeping using in the infobox and the body of the article this disrespectful and absolutely not used name « Letissier »? El Comandante (talk) 17:11, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There’s solid precedent for using an artist’s legal name in addition to their stage name in the first paragraph and infobox—see Halsey or Kendrick Lamar. But I agree, it’s extremely nonstandard to do so throughout the body of the article, and is extremely troubling in the case of a trans singer who changed his name two albums ago. This article should plainly be renamed Rahim Redcar and his legal name (assuming it’s not been changed) used as per the conventions used for cis singers with stage names. El Sandifer (talk) 03:34, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Having done a quick Google News search, it looks like all coverage of the new album is only mentioning Christine and the Queens in the “formerly known as” sense, so as per policy I am going to go ahead and do the Rahim Redcar move, and update the article text to use Redcar in place of Letissier everywhere but the infobox and first sentence. El Sandifer (talk) 03:39, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, but shouldn't the new name be Rahim C Redcar, as it is used in almost all streaming platforms? See Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music... (but yes, not on YouTube, yet) El Comandante (talk) 16:03, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've no objection to it being moved again--I didn't deep dive this in the course of fixing it. El Sandifer (talk) 19:09, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if I can do it myself now or if I need to wait for more opinions to be expressed. El Comandante (talk) 18:36, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 26 October 2024

[edit]

Christine and the QueensRahim Redcar or Rahim C Redcar – Per wp:DEADNAME, as concerned above. And there's a similar case. Web-julio (talk) 00:39, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Note: WikiProject Alternative music, WikiProject Pop music, WikiProject Electronic music, WikiProject France, WikiProject LGBTQ+ studies, WikiProject Musicians, and WikiProject Biography have been notified of this discussion. Web-julio (talk) 00:44, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Neutral - MOS:GENDERID makes sense here, however I have one reservation. This particular artist has (from my understanding) used several different pseudonyms when releasing music, so I'll I'd need to support is something that evidences this isn't just a one-off name for a single album, but rather an actual case of MOS:GENDERID. estar8806 (talk) 05:10, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As I posted above, all his social media (refer to his website at rahimredcar.com with links to all his updated social media accounts) has been updated, with his old ones deprecated and all recent news such as the Rolling Stone article above making it very clear that this change to Rahim Redcar is part of his coming out as a transgender man last year. Several other, more make it clear that the old name is left as "formerly known as" (FKA). Raladic (talk) 05:17, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This Rahim Redcar rants: "I don't know what problem you have in refusing to call me by name" - Soirmag (also reported here with the screenshot of the instagram post) story here is probably the strongest hint of why MOS:GENDERID applies and thus the RM/TR is correct and this should be speedy closed per WP:RMEC under our WP:SNOW clause: I forgive those who denied my truth for three years now. I don't know what problem you guys have to refuse to call me by my name, it's Rahim Redcar. Those who are simply intolerant of someone finding out about their very soul and singing with their hearts to you can just leave. I hope Instagram will change the @ asap. No more of this renegade life, I don't deserve it. Those who like the music can stay; it's not a mall here, it's a dignified work of truth. Amen. Raladic (talk) 05:25, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Though it's true that he went through different pseudonyms, it seems this one is the most recent, and it seems it's been for awhile. This prologue under his current name exists since 2022, but I'm not sure if that's something you can change in such platforms. In any case, some pseudonyms he went through are now in his current pseudonym (Redcar, C (Chris or Claude(?)), Rahim), so it's not something entirely different or totally new. Web-julio (talk) 05:46, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good enough to me. I support as proposed (no need to complicate things with a middle initial). estar8806 (talk) 14:27, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
