Thanks for creating Tirathaba fructivora, Adityavagarwal!

Wikipedia editor Animalparty just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

Please note that this is a species, not a genus. The same applies for Tirathaba hannoveri, Tirathaba rosella, etc. Tirathaba is the genus. Please also add a space between sentences, always.

A page you started (Tirathaba hannoveri) has been reviewed!

Thanks for creating Tirathaba hannoveri, Adityavagarwal!

Wikipedia editor Animalparty just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

Note that it is more correct to write "described in 1964" rather than "discovered in 1964", as the year refers only to date of publication of a scientific name. Often specimens are collected or "discovered" much earlier than their description.

25 DYK Medal

The 25 DYK Creation and Expansion Medal
I am proud to present this medal to Adityavagarwal for having 25 articles featured at Did you know section on the main page of Wikipedia. Congratulation on such a rare accomplishment; less than 450 of Wikipedia's millions of editors have received this award throughout the site's 18-year history. Your contributions to Wikipedia are greatly appreciated. Damien Linnane (talk) 07:10, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I notice you have also listed yourself with 25 nominations under Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by number of DYKs#DYK nominations list. Is that a typo? I'm unable to find your DYK nominations anywhere. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 00:13, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yoninah Hey! Actually, I am really confused about the difference between the first and the second table. Now that I have rechecked the page, most of the DYK creators I know have their names in the first table instead of the second table, so I have removed my name now. Also, could you please tell me the difference between creation and nomination? As far as I understand, one nominates a DYK for which one improves the article to meet the DYK criteria. So, creating a DYK would also contain the process of nominating it, right? Although, I might be way too off, so could you correct my understanding? Adityavagarwal (talk) 09:42, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
"Creation" means you wrote or significantly improved the article, and "expansion" means you contributed to its 5x expansion. (More than one editor can receive a creation/expansion credit for an article.) With an article you created/expanded, you can nominate it yourself or wait for someone else to nominate it. If you nominate it, you list yourself as "creator" and leave the nominator parameter blank on the submission template. Then you will receive a DYK creation credit. If you nominate someone else's article, you list the other editor as creator and you as nominator on the template. You can also see the difference in the size and color of the box that the DYK bot leaves on your page. All the DYK credits you currently have are creation credits – light yellow boxes that fill the width of the talk page. See here for an example of nomination credits – dark orange boxes that are smaller. Does that help? Yoninah (talk) 14:06, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yoninah Thank you very much for your clear explanation! I apologize for my misunderstanding. I now understand the difference between creation and nomination. I was not aware that others could nominate a DYK which they had not created, so I felt that creation of a DYK automatically entailed nomination by the same user. Anyways, thank you again for your explanation!

Thank you

To A Special Wikipedian
You are such a sweetie, there is so much I'd like to say but the words escape me. You are a Wikifriend to many because of your big heart, and the kindness and consideration you show others. Thank you for nominating me but above all, thank you for being you. ❤️ Atsme✍🏻📧 17:12, 17 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Atsme Thank you for your kind words! Due to your profound contributions to Wikipedia, you deserved the highest level awards. As I went through the list of people who received that Editor of the Week award, I was really astounded to see that you had not received it yet! So, I stole the opportunity to nominate you myself. There were innumerable reasons that I could have written to advocate the award for you. But, it would turn the nomination message into a whole Wikipedia article! So, I chose to only mention your invaluable contributions to articles on Wikipedia. Adityavagarwal (talk) 04:13, 18 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Adityavagarwal. Let me "hide" a big thank you here for your recent additions to the Editor Retention Project. They are much appreciated. ―Buster7  06:03, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Buster7 Hey, thank you too for your immense contributions to the Editor Retention! In fact, you are the one who is working so hard to disseminate this award to other editors, so you deserve far more thanks than me! Your amazing work regarding the award is really praiseworthy as it maintains an amiable atmosphere on Wikipedia and encourages editors whilst recognizing them for their efforts! Adityavagarwal (talk) 09:36, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Buster7 Do you know how to check a user's GA/DYK/FA count? For Shyamal, I was not able to find any, so would you be able to help me with that? Also, in case you are able to find these details, feel free to add them to the nomination as well! Thank you! Adityavagarwal (talk) 03:23, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Editor of the Week

Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week in recognition of your great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

User:Damien Linnane submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week in late January:

I nominate Adityavagarwal to be Editor of the Week for significant regular contributions, including the promotion of several notable articles to good status, two of which have since received Million Awards, as well as active participation in behind the scenes work, such as reviewing articles at FAC, participating in RfA and extensive work clearing the backlog at AfD. Not to mention constantly bringing positive vibes everywhere they go; they make Wikipedia a better place. User:Titodutta and User:Darylgolden both seconded this nomination

User:Buster7 subsequently submitted a second nomination in early February:

Adityavagarwal came to my attention as a frequent nominator of fellow WikiPedians for the EotW award. An active editor, he has helped 45 articles become GA over the last few years. He is the recipient of the Million Award for bringing Taxonomy (biology) to GA status, and two Quarter Million Awards for bringing Columbidae and Mallard to GA status. Not only an incredible editor but a kind and thoughtful human being. User:Atsme seconded with the comment, "I am humbled and honored to refer to him as a colleague, and hope for the opportunity to collaborate with him in the near future editing articles for which we share a common interest". He was the 2017 WikiCup Winner and is a member of many important WikiProjects; the Counter-Vandalism unit, the Guild of Copy Editors, the Typo Team, Environment, Ecology, Genealogy and Invention. He is an active responder at the Teahouse, helping editors find answers to varied questions. Common loon and Brown Pelican are just couple of the many articles ADDY has improved. This award is small thanks for the many industrious contributions he has made to the encyclopedia! His hard work is recognized and appreciated.

You can copy the following text to your user page to display a user box proclaiming your selection as Editor of the Week:

Teahouse talkback: you've got messages!

Hello, Adityavagarwal. Your question has been answered at the Teahouse Q&A board. Feel free to reply there!
Please note that all old questions are archived after 2-3 days of inactivity. Message added by Nick Moyes (talk) 03:23, 25 February 2019 (UTC). (You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{teahouse talkback}} template).[reply]
Hey, Nick Moyes I was wondering if you could help count the GAs/FAs of Shy for this (see who shy is on the page)! I have counted his DYKs (1-Formiscurra) the way you said, so could you also check if I have counted it right? Also, feel free to edit there if you would like! I did not want to attract attention to the page at teahouse, as it is supposed to be a surprise for the nominee, so I have messaged you here. Adityavagarwal (talk) 08:51, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I agree with you - one DYK nomination, based upon this. I'll have to take a look at the EotW entry later on, if that's OK. Regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 09:01, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for your help, Nick Moyes and yes it would be complete alright if you could look at the entry later on! Adityavagarwal (talk) 09:04, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Squeamish Ossifrage was in joint fifth place with 224 points, mostly garnered from bringing the 1937 Fox vault fire to featured article status.
  • Ohio Ed! was also on 224, with an amazing number of good article reviews (56 actually).

These contestants, like all the others, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews on 143 good articles, one hundred more than the number of good articles they claimed for, thus making a substantial dent in the review backlog. Well done all!

Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.

If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Jo-Jo Eumerus Hey, I got busy for a while. Just give me a day or two, and I would complete the review! The article is really well-written, so I just need to have a final look at it. Adityavagarwal (talk) 20:57, 10 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please participate to the talk pages consultation

Hello

Our team at the Wikimedia Foundation is working on a project to improve the ease-of-use and productivity of wiki talk pages. As a Teahouse host, I can imagine you’ve run into challenges explaining talk pages to first-time participants.

We want all contributors to be able to talk to each other on the wikis – to ask questions, to resolve differences, to organize projects and to make decisions. Communication is essential for the depth and quality of our content, and the health of our communities. We're currently leading a global consultation on how to improve talk pages, and we're looking for people that can report on their experiences using (or helping other people to use) wiki talk pages. We'd like to invite you to participate in the consultation, and invite new users to join too.

We thank you in advance for your participation and your help.

NPR Newsletter No.17

Hello Adityavagarwal,

News
Discussions of interest
  • Two elements of CSD G6 have been split into their own criteria: R4 for redirects in the "File:" namespace with the same name as a file or redirect at Wikimedia Commons (Discussion), and G14 for disambiguation pages which disambiguate zero pages, or have "(disambiguation)" in the title but disambiguate a single page (Discussion).
  • {{db-blankdraft}} was merged into G13 (Discussion)
  • A discussion recently closed with no consensus on whether to create a subject-specific notability guideline for theatrical plays.
  • There is an ongoing discussion on a proposal to create subject-specific notability guidelines for chemicals and organism taxa.
Reminders
  • NPR is not a binary keep / delete process. In many cases a redirect may be appropriate. The deletion policy and its associated guideline clearly emphasise that not all unsuitable articles must be deleted. Redirects are not contentious. See a classic example of the templates to use. More templates are listed at the R template index. Reviewers who are not aware, do please take this into consideration before PROD, CSD, and especially AfD because not even all admins are aware of such policies, and many NAC do not have a full knowledge of them.
NPP Tools Report
  • Superlinks – allows you to check an article's history, logs, talk page, NPP flowchart (on unpatrolled pages) and more without navigating away from the article itself.
  • copyvio-check – automatically checks the copyvio percentage of new pages in the background and displays this info with a link to the report in the 'info' panel of the Page curation toolbar.
  • The NPP flowchart now has clickable hyperlinks.

Six Month Queue Data: Today – Low – 2393 High – 4828

March GOCE newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors March 2019 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to the March newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since December 2018. All being well, we're planning to issue these quarterly in 2019, balancing the need to communicate widely with the avoidance of filling up talk pages. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below.

January Drive: Thanks to everyone for the splendid work in January's Backlog Elimination Drive. We removed copyedit tags from all of the articles tagged in our original target months of June, July and August 2018, and by 24 January we ran out of articles. After adding September, we finished the month with 8 target articles remaining and 842 left in the backlog. GOCE copyeditors also completed 48 requests for copyedit in January. Of the 31 people who signed up for this drive, 24 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Blitz: Thanks to everyone who participated in the February Blitz. Of the 15 people who signed up, 13 copyedited at least one article. Participants claimed 32 copyedits, including 15 requests. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: As of 23:39, 18 March 2019 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have completed 108 requests since 1 January and the backlog stands at 851 articles.

March Drive: The month-long March drive is now underway; the target months are October and November 2018. Awards will be given to everyone who copyedits at least one article from the backlog. Sign up here!

Election reminder: It may only be March but don't forget our mid-year Election of Coordinators opens for nominations on 1 June. Coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought of helping out at the Guild, or know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Miniapolis, Baffle gab1978, Jonesey95, Reidgreg and Tdslk.

To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

WikiCup 2019 May newsletter

The second round of the 2019 WikiCup has now finished. Contestants needed to scored 32 points to advance into round 3. Our top four scorers in round 2 all scored over 400 points and were:

  • Scotland Cas Liber (1210), our winner in 2016, with two featured articles and three DYKs. He also made good use of the bonus points available, more than doubling his score by choosing appropriate articles to work on.
  • Wales Kosack (750), last year's runner up, with an FA, a GA, two FLs, and five DYKs.
  • Adam Cuerden (480), a WikiCup veteran, with 16 featured pictures, mostly restorations.
  • Kingdom of Prussia Zwerg Nase (461), a seasoned competitor, with a FA, a GA and an ITN item.

Other notable performances were put in by Chicago Barkeep49 with six GAs, United States Ceranthor, England Lee Vilenski, and Saskatchewan Canada Hky, each with seven GARs, and Denmark MPJ-DK with a seven item GT.

So far contestants have achieved nine featured articles between them and a splendid 80 good articles. Commendably, 227 GARs have been completed during the course of the 2019 WikiCup, so the backlog of articles awaiting GA review has been reduced as a result of contestants' activities. The judges are pleased with the thorough GARs that are being performed, and have hardly had to reject any. As we enter the third round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. NPR Newsletter No.18

Hello Adityavagarwal,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

Niharika Kohli, a product manager for the growth team, announced that work is underway in implementing improvements to New Page Patrol as part of the 2019 Community Wishlist and suggests all who are interested watch the project page on meta. Two requested improvements have already been completed. These are:

  • Allow filtering by no citations in page curation
  • Not having CSD and PRODs automatically marked as reviewed, reflecting current consensus among reviewers and current Twinkle functionality.
Reliable Sources for NPP

Rosguill has been compiling a list of reliable sources across countries and industries that can be used by new page patrollers to help judge whether an article topic is notable or not. At this point further discussion is needed about if and how this list should be used. Please consider joining the discussion about how this potentially valuable resource should be developed and used.

Backlog drive coming soon

Look for information on the an upcoming backlog drive in our next newsletter. If you'd like to help plan this drive, join in the discussion on the New Page Patrol talk page.

Adityavagarwal, I noticed that on another review page you asked User:Lee Vilenski to take over that review (which has been done) and this one as well.

It would be much cleaner if I could have the Macdonald seamount review page deleted, since you haven't actually done any review here, just loaded the template. Please confirm that you won't be doing this review, and I'll arrange to delete the page. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:44, 23 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Just as reference, I probably will do the review, but might take me some time. I actually archived the other review, as that suits easier for me to start a new review. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:59, 23 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, BlueMoonset I apologize for the late response. Feel free to do anything required! I got really busy lately, so I was not able to proceed with the review. Also, Lee Vilenski thank you for you help! Adityavagarwal (talk) 07:01, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:Macdonald seamount/GA1

Greetings, do you plan to still work on this? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 11:53, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Jo-Jo Eumerus I got really busy lately, and hence I was not able to proceed with the review. I sincerely apologize for that! Although, I have requested Lee Vilenski to help complete the review. I hope you understand. Adityavagarwal (talk) 07:02, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE June newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors June 2019 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to the June newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since March 2019. You can unsubscribe from our mailings at any time; see below.

Election time: Nomination of candidates in our mid-year Election of Coordinators opened on 1 June, and voting will take place from 16 June. Coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought of helping out at the Guild, or know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here.

June Blitz: Our June blitz will soon be upon us; it will begin at 00:01 on 16 June (UTC) and will close at 23:59 on 22 June (UTC). The themes are "nature and the environment" and all requests.

March Drive: Thanks to everyone for their work in March's Backlog Elimination Drive. We removed copyedit tags from 182 of the articles tagged in our original target months October and November 2018, and the month finished with 64 target articles remaining from November and 811 in the backlog. GOCE copyeditors also completed 22 requests for copyedit in March; the month ended with 34 requests pending. Of the 32 people who signed up for this drive, 24 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

April Blitz: Thanks to everyone who participated in the April Blitz; the blitz ran from 14 to 20 April (UTC) inclusive and the themes were Sports and Entertainment. Of the 15 people who signed up, 13 copyedited at least one article. Participants claimed 60 copyedits. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: As of 04:36, 3 June 2019 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have completed 267 requests since 1 January. The backlog of tagged articles stands at 605 articles.

May Drive: During the May Backlog Elimination Drive, Guild copy-editors removed copyedit tags from 191 of the 192 articles tagged in our original target months of November and December 2018, and January 2019 was added on 22 May. We finished the month with 81 target articles remaining and a record low of 598 articles in the backlog. GOCE copyeditors also completed 24 requests for copyedit during the May drive, and the month ended with 35 requests pending. Of the 26 people who signed up for this drive, 21 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Seychelles parakeet

Hi, just dropping by to ask if you're still interested in collaborating on Seychelles parakeet? It has been a while... FunkMonk (talk) 02:04, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello FunkMonk, how are you? Thank you so much for dropping by! I am really interested but I have become so terribly busy that I am just able to keep tab on what is happening on Wikipedia. If you want to do that article I could pick up a new one in the future which you would suggest and we could later collaborate on that new article! I do not want my such a long delay to affect these articles. Adityavagarwal (talk) 07:10, 19 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
