Thank you for asking me - much appreciated. However I only have one Good Article achievement myself, and I don't suppose that qualifies me as a GA reviewer. So I have simply done a copyedit on the article - it was basically fine except for one or two items (see my edit summary). It's unfortunate that the article involves a TV show and an EP with the same name, and both have to be in italics. That means I had to make the difference clear. Yes of course it's easy to work out which is which if you read it carefully, but at first glance it can be confusing. I hope that's OK. --Storye book (talk) 11:27, 11 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the kind encouragement, EEng! However I don't feel ready for that, right now, especially as the DYK-backlog-clearing job is taking far longer and is far more intense than I had estimated. I am happy to contribute in small ways to GA article development if I am asked, though. --Storye book (talk) 12:58, 11 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
It brings tears to my eyes to know that at least someone appreciates the many sacrifices I make to bring knowitall-ness to Wikipedia. Thank you. I can die happy now. BTW I'll do Jack and Ed Biddle today -- there's a delay on Jean Berko Gleason but not too much longer. EEng (talk) 18:08, 11 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thank you for notifying me about this. I am finding more information detailedly describing what happened and what means did the eunuchs adopt during this practice. It's 9:30 pm in China so I may get back to improve the content in about 1 day. :) Cheers, KouDou13:31, 17 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'll be wrapping this up this weekend. Listen, you may have noticed I'm on a bit of a hook-pull rampage, and I dinged a couple which you had approved. I hope you're not sore. I just never noticed until now how really hollow so many hooks are under their eggshell veneers. EEng (talk) 22:53, 21 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Not to blow up the DYK nomination further: I don't know what 11/11 means, and if it's November, I guess the answer is no, at least I asked about August in May and the answer was "no, no more than six weeks in advance". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:11, 24 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I fail to see how we can expect to have fully referenced articles, without what you call close paragraphing. But to be more constructive, why don't you try to improve the article? Hi Super DYK Avenger. How does donating QPQs work? (I realise I'm probably not being my normal razor-edged-self here; probably low blood sugar or my refusal to let the Professor inject me with the Brain Enhancer serum this morning; OK, so it makes you super intelligent, but the giant pulsing brain look is so off trend) Belle (talk) 13:24, 15 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
(watching) for me it worked like this: a friend was reminded that everything was fine with a nom but the missing qpq, I had no idea when he would see that, and did one for him, which was accepted, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:44, 15 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
But that wasn't retroactive was it? I'm thinking I've done hundreds (probably tens but I like to talk myself up) of reviews without a single nomination. Can I donate one of those if I take pity on some drowning nominator, or would I have to do another review? (not that that would be a problem as I am a reviewing machine, sometimes I do as many as three in one day; count them, three; that's more than a camel can count on one hoof.) Belle (talk) 14:13, 15 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks guys for your generous QPQ donations. @ Belle: I think the principle is that QPQ should help a little to rectify the awful backlog of DYK noms, i.e. it's there to make things better for DYK in general, and not there to hassle nominators who for whatever reason might find QPQ too difficult. Some nominators are clearly not ready. Some are struggling with English as a second language. Some don't have time or have disappeared. So that's my own motivation for donating. The only proviso is that donated QPQs should be found easily by admin when promoting the nom. If you think that admin won't find your donated QPQ, include a link to the template that you reviewed. No need to do a brand new extra one. Sorted. I do hesitate to donate sometimes, when I'm dying to shove the nom upstairs quickly to get rid of it, and the nominator is clearly capable of doing a QPQ but they have delayed, and might be offended if I do stuff for them. Nothing is clear-cut, really. --Storye book (talk) 14:55, 15 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
LOL, yes. You only get to win a few friends at this game. If you give selectively you're patronising or missing out the needy, and if you don't give at all you're mean, and if you give too much to too many you're undermining the system. But there are always some who are pleased or relieved to get a free QPQ, and they keep me going. --Storye book (talk) 06:30, 16 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Wiki Loves Monuments
This month sees the UK participating in the Wiki Loves Monuments competition for the second time. The aim is to capture images of monuments (mainly Grade I and Grade II* listed buildings) and to upload them to Commons. Many monuments have no images available for them or need better ones without clutter in view. The lists of the monuments were produced on a county basis last year. A full list of the English lists for use in the competition are available at listed buildings in England. If you are interested in taking part then take a look at the UK home page for further details. You do not have to take images in Yorkshire but it would be helpful if those in the area would help out to try and get at least one image for every monument in our area. May be the annual Heritage Open Days will provide opportunities for photos of places not usually open to the public.

Welcome back! When you have a chance, you might perhaps wish to look at the comments which I added to your talk page (Archive 14, under the heading Charles Farrar Forster) last August. I have got a head-and-shoulders photo of Charles which you might possibly think worth adding to his page. Trouble is, I'm not sufficiently clued up on how to go about doing that. The photo has been cut round & is about 4 inches across, so it would need to be cropped or squared off. I've scanned it & it's in the "My Scans" section on my PC. I could therefore probably send it to you as an email attachment/PDF file or whatever the correct description is. Please let me know if you think this might be a good idea.
Since Charles was my great great uncle, I'm also intrigued to know whether you are related to him. When you have a chance, please could you let me know about this, either here or on my talk page. NinetyCharacters (talk) 22:24, 17 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! Have replied on that page. NB: I could also post to you a copy of the article, written by my father in "Stamp Magazine" in 1999, which deals prominently with Beckwithshaw & which is among the sources listed on the Beckwithshaw Wiki page. With the general election and local elections taking place on 7 May there will be a large number of articles that will need to be updated with the election results when they are declared. Also there will be new articles needed for the election results and for newly elected MPs who we have no articles for. Would be good if these new articles could be tagged with the project banner if they are relevant to the area so that they can be tracked. Thanks for uploading File:Eisenach.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kellyhi!10:38, 14 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Celebrations
Celebrations are in order this month as we reach a milestone in the project with 100 editions of the newsletter. It was way back in May 2008 when we introduced the monthly newsletter to project members and I hope that it is still useful to keep members informed of things that are going on in the project. Sometimes you wonder if there is any activity going on and what is happening to the articles in the scope of the project but slowly things are progressing. In May 2008 we only had 3,343 articles to look after, but today that is 12,795. Membership was 45 but is now 82, even though we had a cull of members who were no longer active during that period. Of our identified 15 top-level importance articles, 1 has been promoted to FA-class, 3 have been promoted to GA-class, 1 to B-class, 1 to C-class, while 1 has been demoted to GA-class and another to C-class, note that C-class did not exist in May 2008. We now have 40 FA-class articles and 16 FL-class lists compared to 9 FA-class articles and 7 FL-class lists in May 2008.
Congratulations to all who have helped along the way and be inspired to move things forward over the coming months.

Thanks for uploading File:1958 ivan brovkin na tseline.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

I don't think we can use a second non-free image in the same article, so I believe this one will have to be deleted due to being orphaned. Storye book (talk) 07:23, 16 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

The September 2016 articles selected below are an editor choice as there were no further suggestions from the project talk page.
The project is subscribed to a clean-up listing which lists articles tagged with various clean-up tags that need attention. The listing is refreshed by a bot on a regular basis.
Monitoring is essential Use the watchlist to keep an eye on changes to the project's articles so that vandalism and spamming can be removed as quickly as possible.
Moves Please be careful when performing articles moves and ensure that you also move all the talk sub-pages and update any image fair use rational. Otherwise the archives, to-do lists, assessment comments and GA reviews get lost and the image may be deleted as it has an incorrect FUR. You will also have to check that the Commons link is set correctly.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Church of St Thomas the Apostle, Killinghall, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Paschal Lamb, Ripley and Waterford Cathedral. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
Thanks to the contributions of our many members and supporters, WP:YORKS has become a leading local British WikiProject in terms of the total number of articles supported (up from 12,822 last month to 12,859 on 30 September). In the area of GAs WP:YORKS at 132 is ahead of WP:GM who have 85. WP:GM has the lead in FAs at 61 out of a total number of 3,693 articles.
Currently we have forty one Yorkshire featured articles:

See how template parameters are used
The following was reported in Signpost and is very useful for finding mistakes in template usage.
The Template Parameters tool is now available on Tool Labs, for viewing template parameter usage. It works with TemplateData to show the validity of parameter names that are used in template transclusions. For a required parameter, it can display a list of pages where the template is missing the parameter. The tool also shows commonly used values for each parameter. The data is updated monthly.

Hi Storye book – thanks for uploading the image. I am intending to work on Hove eventually as my next main project, and in particular the history of Hove's development, so this will be very useful. This terrace is only about 5 minutes from where I live, funnily enough. It has been altered a bit and no longer has the name Doone Terrace, but has instead been renumbered as 77–91 (odd) Lorna Road. The date of 1880 makes them the earliest buildings on the road. The Encyclopaedia of Hove and Portslade tells me that Richard Jefferies lived at number 87 when he was convalescing in the 1880s, and there is indeed a plaque on the house (although not a blue plaque!). Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa.03:03, 21 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
