Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, De Pisan, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Elysia and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Incomplete DYK nomination

[edit]

Hello! Your submission of Template:Did you know nominations/Carrie Langston at the Did You Know nominations page is not complete; if you would like to continue, please link the nomination to the nominations page as described in step 3 of the nomination procedure. If you do not want to continue with the nomination, tag the nomination page with {{db-g7}}, or ask a DYK admin. Thank you. DYKHousekeepingBot (talk) 09:24, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Voting+while+trans+c4+es Page 1.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Voting+while+trans+c4+es Page 1.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Carrie Langston Hughes

[edit]

On 4 April 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Carrie Langston Hughes, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that, at age 60, Carrie Langston Hughes made her Broadway debut as Sister Susie May Hunt in Hall Johnson's Run Little Chillun? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Carrie Langston Hughes. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Carrie Langston Hughes), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Women in Red

[edit]

Hi there, De Pisan, and welcome to Women in Red. It's good to have one more instructor from Wiki Edu. In connection with biographies of women, you might find it useful to look through our Ten Simple Rules. I hope you will be inspired to start creating women's biographies yourself and encourage your students to spend more time writing about women. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 10:49, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notes

[edit]

Hi! Elysia (Wiki Ed) asked me to give you some feedback! Here are my notes:

  • Is this to go into a new article or will it be its own article? If so, this will need an intro/lead section. If it's meant to go into another article, make sure to choose carefully. Medium doesn't look like it lists specific magazines, so it may not be the best target unless it's rare for them to do partnerships (ie, the only one or one of a handful). Otherwise it may be best to put it in Gay's article.
  • This has some overciting. This is basically where you will have more than 1-3 cites at the end of a sentence or claim. It's better to have just a couple of very good sources rather than multiple ones that may be lacking.
  • Looking at the sources, it looks like some of them are repeated citations - for example, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, and this are the same thing, as they both reprint an Associated Press article, which you also have listed as a source. These would be considered the same source, even if it's republished elsewhere, so I'd stick to just using the AP site itself. This will help resolve the overciting as well. I've removed them for the time being.
  • One of the sources is a Google search - these shouldn't be used as sources because they're dynamic and are prone to change.
  • Be careful of quotes taking up most of the space. It's generally fine to have them as long as there is context and all, but be careful about them overwhelming the material.
  • This could use more sourcing if it's going to be its own article.

You've done a good job of this being fairly neutral and the notes about the sourcing and lead isn't going to be an issue if this is going to be part of an existing article. On a side note, something you may find helpful is this list of perennial sources. It lists whether various sources are considered usable and the arguments for why or why not. It's something I've found fairly helpful and honestly, pretty interesting as a whole, so wanted to share the wealth (of knowledge), so to speak. :) I hope this helps! Please discuss on talk page

[edit]

Perhaps it's a misunderstanding; when I wrote "please discuss on talk page" in my edit summary for your inclusion of material in Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, I meant to discuss it on the article's talk page, where I had posted back on July 27th regarding the content. Your comment on my talk page that I could have made my response 'more timely' is rather weak considering that fact.

Please discuss the matter on the article talk page, not my user page. Thanks. Anastrophe (talk) 02:01, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello De Pisan. I have noticed quite a lot of redirects created by you, including links to WP:De Pisan/sandbox, and De Pisan/sandbox. Why have you made so many of these redirects? If you are experimenting with moving pages please try to keep them in your userspace. TGHL ↗ 🍁 20:08, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No worries! We appreciate your contributions. One simple move is good enough, thought – I'm seeing redirects from the Wikipedia: and article namespaces, which are strictly reserved for Wikipedia policy/guidelines and articles. Next time you perform a move, just remember to double-check the namespace! The Articles for Creation process may be more useful for this, however. Just a thought. Margaret Blackgoat moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Margaret Blackgoat, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. – NJD-DE (talk) 23:10, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How do I make it an acceptable stub???

2600:1700:38B0:4380:380D:DCF7:67D2:40C0 (talk) 00:28, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hey! And where did my citations disappear to in this new DRAFT you made??? You know, this is possibly also a problem of Wikipedia being unable to acknowledge/honor peoples whose backgrounds do not fit the Wikipedia white-focused standards. De Pisan (talk) 01:03, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No, that's not it. Every day, dozens of insufficiently sourced articles are move from main space to Draft space and they are about a lot of different kinds of subjects, not just non-white people. Once the article is sufficiently referenced and submit it for review to AFC, hopefully get approved and moved back to main space. It's not about color or culture, it's all about citations to reliable sources.
If you have questions, please bring them to the Teahouse for a second opinion. Liz Read! Talk! 04:41, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
To help you with this article, an experienced editor "cleaned it up" and removed content that is unnecessary and inappropriate for a draft article. But if you prefer, you can revert their edit and get your original version back. I think their edit improved the page though. Liz Read! Talk! 04:44, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I cannot find the Draft anymore. Any clues? De Pisan (talk) 18:52, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Women in Red 8th Anniversary

[edit]
Women in Red 8th Anniversary
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap!
