The SIG SG 552 is a compact version of the SIG 550 5.56 x 45 mm NATO assault rifle manufactured in Switzerland by SAN Swiss Arms, formerly Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft (SIG).

The SIG 552 features a folding stock, making it easy to stow. This weapon is used by police/military forces around the world and by a limited number of civilians. As with the rest of the 550 family, it uses a modified Kalashnikov-type action, making the weapon quite resistant to fouling.

like the AKS 74U it is often called a submachine gun because of its short length. technically this is not true, as to be classed as a submachine gun it would have to fire pistol bullets.
