Welcome to the Wikiproject on Estonia!

It has come to the attention of several editors that Estonia is under-represented on the English Wikipedia. To join, please sign your name with four tildes (~~~~) under the "Participants" section. Why not label yourself? Add a WikiProject Estonia userbox to your userpage.

Goals

  1. To create articles about notable Estonians and places in Estonia.
  2. To expand Estonian stubs.
  3. To get as many Estonian articles as possible to Featured Status.

Announcements

I wrote a minor script, that displays this page on top of your watchlist. It should work without Twinkle and it is relatively untested. If you need to change the options, edit the URL - namely &hideminor=0&days=1&limit=50, it should be self-explanatory. To install (instructions blatantly stolen from Twinkle page):
1. copy the text below and paste it into the bottom of your monobook.js file:
2. save the new monobook.js page, and
3. completely refresh your browser by bypassing your cache (hit Control-Shift-R in Firefox or Control-F5 in Internet Explorer).
The script:
addOnloadHook(estRelated);

function estRelated() {
  if (document.URL.indexOf('Special:Watchlist') == -1) return;
  estaj=sajax_init_object(null);
  estaj.open("GET", "http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Recentchangeslinked&target=Wikipedia:WikiProject_Estonia/EA&hideminor=0&days=1&limit=50", true);
  estaj.onreadystatechange = function()
  {
    if(estaj.readyState != 4) return;
    sPage = estaj.responseText;
    document.getElementById("contentSub").innerHTML = sPage.substring(sPage.indexOf("<h4>"), sPage.indexOf('<div class="printfooter">') - 25);
  };
  estaj.send(null);
}
Please let me know if you have any problems or ideas.

It might be good to use as URL in this script http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Recentchangeslinked&target=User:Sander_S%C3%A4de/WPEarticles&hideminor=0&days=7&limit=50 (as link), which is updated (hopefully) more often then previous one - and contains all WikiProject Estonia articles and talk pages - you can see the list here. That list gets updated whenever I (or if someone else wants to do it as well - go ahead) runs this script. Sander Säde 18:22, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion

In order to bolster development of the Estonian articles, it would be great to improve referencing and expand coverage. My suggestion is to proceed from sources to articles rather than other way round. Something along the following lines could work:

1) Enter an Estonia-related search term in Google Scholar
2) Choose an interesting source among the results
3) Summarize (some important part of) it briefly so that you don’t violate copyright
4) Insert claims from the summary with properly formatted inline references into various relevant articles

What do you think of this? Colchicum 14:59, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pay attention to this [1] (only about 1000 items, not 132,000) and this [2] (only about 750 items, not 22,900). Colchicum 16:52, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I created Wikipedia:WikiProject Estonia/categories, a list/table that lists Estonia-related categories. If you have time, please do try to fill it... -- Sander Säde 19:37, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Estonian GA articles

As Haapsalu Castle just passed good article review, I noticed that it the only GA-class Estonian article (see Category:GA-Class Estonia articles). Come on, guys and gals, we can do better then that! How about trying to pass at least Estonia, Tallinn, Tartu and few others important Estonian articles through GA review (Bronze Soldier of Tallinn would be good as well, except there is way too much edit warring for GA). Ideally, we should try to get GA for all Category:Top-importance Estonia articles - and then attempt featured article on few best ones. -- Sander Säde 05:52, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please feel free to list your new Estonia-related articles here (newer articles at the top, please). Any new articles that have an interesting or unusual fact in them should be suggested for the Did you know? box on the Main Wikipedia page. DYN has a five day time limit from the creation of the article.

True... I guess I'll start slowly creating those. Soomaa National Park exists, though, as well as Lahemaa National Park. -- Sander Säde 05:45, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
