Pointe-Claire was a former town and suburb of the city of Montreal. Along with the other municipalities on the island, it became merged with that city on January 1, 2002. The city's symbol was a windmill. The area remains known in the sports world for its contributions to competitive swimming, and has sent several athletes to the Summer Olympic Games.
