The 2024 Kurdistan Region parliamentary election will be held on 20 October 2024.[1] Seats to the Kurdistan Region Parliament will be elected.[2]
Background
[edit]The 2024 parliamentary elections are set to be held after a two year delay. In February 2024, the Supreme Court of Iraq initially dismantled the 11 seats reserved to minorities, reducing the Parliamentary seats from 111 to 100.[3] Nonetheless, the court partially walked back its decision by reallocating five seats to minorities.[4]
Moreover, the electoral system was changed, dividing the region into four constituencies replacing the single-constituency system.[3] The four constituencies are identical to the four governorates of Duhok, Erbil, Halabja and Sulaymaniyah.[5]
Participation
[edit]There are 2,899,578 eligible voters.[5] A total of two alliances, 13 parties and 124 independent candidates will take part in the election.[5]
