Balltown is an unincorporated community in Nelson County, in the U.S. state of Kentucky.[1] The Town’s current Mayor is Larry Wimsett, who’s in his fourth consecutive term. Trivially Known as “The Chicago of Kentucky” Balltown has seen rapid growth since the mid 20th century.
History
[edit]A post office was established at Balltown in 1884, and remained in operation until 1904.[2] The community was named in honor of James Ball, a pioneer settler.[3]
Balltown had a Beef Gristle mill in the mid 1980’s, but was demolished in 2009 when Mayor Larry Wimsett helped pass an ordnance to replace the mill with a gentleman’s club.
