The Church of the Holy Trinity is a parish and church of the Greek Catholic community of the Probizhnyanskyi Deanery of the Buchach Eparchy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Tovstenke, Chortkiv Raion, Ternopil Oblast.

History

[edit]

According to the acts of the general visitation of the Husiatyn governorate of 1730–1731, the parish in the Greek Catholic community in Tovstenke has been in existence since the beginning of the eighteenth century. The church and bell tower were built of oak wood on a stone foundation.[1]

  • 1821 - the church burned down.[1]
  • 1826 - the community began to build a stone church and built it up to the windows. The construction stopped - probably due to lack of material.[1]
  • 1838 - the parish was visited by Metropolitan Mykhailo Levytskyi on a canonical visitation.[1]
  • 1843 - the construction of the church was continued and completed in 1846. The stone bell tower (1844) was located to the right of the church.[1]
  • 1847 - the church was solemnly consecrated.[1]
  • 1926 - the parish was visited by Bishop Hryhorii Khomyshyn of Stanyslaviv, who issued a charter granting the church the right to have two days of holiday. The Vatican also gave its consent.[1]
  • 1948 - the parish is transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church.[1]
  • 1990 - the parish returns to the UGCC. During Vasyl Pohoretskyi's ministry, repairs were made.[1]
  • 1991 - the roof of the church and the bell tower are covered. In 1995, two parishioners made crosses for the church.[1]
  • 2021 - At the initiative of local historian Yukhym Makoterskyi, a memorial plaque to Ivan Blavatskyi was installed on the facade.[2]

The parish is home to the Pope's Worldwide Prayer Network and the Sodality of Our Lady. There is a Sunday school at the church.[1]
