Connor Smith (born 1 February 2002) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Hamilton Academical, on loan from Scottish Premiership club St Johnstone.
Club career
[edit]He made his senior debut for Heart of Midlothian on 13 May 2018, in a 1–0 league defeat away at Kilmarnock.[1] He was one of four Hearts youth players to make their debuts in that match, alongside Chris Hamilton, Cammy Logan, and Leeroy Makovora.[2][3] Smith was subsequently loaned to Cowdenbeath, Arbroath,[4] Cove Rangers[5] and Queen's Park.[6]
He moved on loan to Hamilton Academical in January 2023.[7] On 1 September 2023, Smith joined National League North side Scunthorpe United on loan for the 23/24 campaign.[8]
On 26 January 2024, Smith signed for Scottish Premiership club St Johnstone on a contract until May 2025.[9]
In September 2024, Smith returned on loan to Hamilton Academical.[10]
International career
[edit]Smith has represented Scotland at under-16, under-17, under-18 and under-21 youth levels.[11]
Personal life
[edit]Smith attended the SFA performance school at Broughton High School, Edinburgh.[12]
His older brother Callum is also a footballer –[13] they came up against one another in the Scottish Championship Promotion play-off final in both the 2021–22 (Queen's Park, with Connor on loan and among the scorers, defeated Callum's Airdrie)[14] and 2022–23 seasons (Airdrie overcame Hamilton aided by a goal from Callum in the first leg against his former club;[15] Connor levelled the tie for the opposition in the return, and the outcome was settled on penalties).[16]
