Disputatio:Tholus
Um, cupola is an Italian word (the -ola is a dead giveaway: the word comes ultimately from cupula "tublet"). The Latin word tholus is given for "dome" in dictionaries, but is also problematic because modern architects have introduced a distinction between domes and tholi. --Iustinus 14:45, 12 Aprilis 2008 (UTC)
- Could it be changed tu 'cupula' then? 'Tholus' isn't exactly accurate, as it means a drum-shaped structure. Perhaps 'semiovum' would be the best term? 82.36.94.228 17:23, 17 Decembris 2008 (UTC)
- I think semiovum would be a bit too creative, unless you have a source for that. Even though it historicall should mean a small tub (or even barrel), I think cupula is fair game. And surely we wouldn't be the first to use it this way. --Iustinus 17:28, 17 Decembris 2008 (UTC)
