Five Nights at Freddy's: Into the Pit is a 2024 adventure role-playing horror game developed and published by Mega Cat Studios. The game serves as an adaptation of the 2019 book of the same name, originally written by Five Nights at Freddy's creator Scott Cawthon and Elley Cooper, from the Fazbear Frights series of novels. It portrays the events depicted in a 2D interactive side scroller in a pixel art style.

The game was released on August 7, 2024, a day earlier than initially planned, coinciding with the 10-year anniversary of the franchise to positive reviews. Ports for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, was released on September 27. A Nintendo Switch port was released on October 31.

Plot

[edit]

A boy named Oswald, sick of his dad leaving him at a rundown Jeff's Pizza every day of his summer, hides in the ball pit to teach him a lesson. He emerges at a different restaurant, Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, with animatronics and arcade games in the 1980s. However, things go wrong when he follows a yellow rabbit to a back room of the restaurant. Parents and children are fleeing the restaurant and Oswald returns to the pit. His dad and Jeff are waiting for him but the yellow rabbit jumps out of the pit and takes Oswald's dad. When his father emerges, Oswald knows something is wrong but no one else can tell. Oswald has to avoid his "dad" (who glitches out to reveal the yellow rabbit) while uncovering the secrets of his town, his family, and the pizzeria, and try to get his real father back.[1]

Endings

[edit]

Depending on the player's choices throughout the game, they can obtain several endings distinguished by stars:

  • On any night, the player can exit Freddy Fazbear's Pizza out the main entrance, leaving Oswald's father behind; If the player fails the final quick time event on the fifth night, Oswald ends up back in the pizzeria and his eyes glow like the yellow rabbit.
  • If the player gets to the fifth night without finding Oswald's father's belongings and the photo, Oswald rescues his father but the yellow rabbit takes him back in the pit and he is tied up, with his fate left ambiguous.
  • If the player gets the belongings and photo on the fifth night, Oswald is able to save his father from the yellow rabbit and it hangs itself in the ball pit's netting. However, having not seen them leave, Jeff checks in the ball pit and is attacked.
  • If the player gets the fixes and completes the arcade machines, completes the three secret games, and finds the belongings and photo, Oswald leaves with his father, the family has dinner, and Jeff lives.
