Public domain explanation

  • Under the terms of the 1909 Copyright Act (which was law until 1978), any copyrighted item had to have that copyright renewed in the 28th year following registration, otherwise it irrevocably entered the public domain.
  • Searching for "The Last Hurrah" with The US Copyright Office shows that the film had its copyright renewed, but there is no indication that any other material relating to the film did.
