Searchlight Pictures (sebelumnya Fox Searchlight Pictures) adalah sebuah perusahaan distribusi film Amerika yang merupakan anak perusahaan dari The Walt Disney Studios, sebuah perusahaan saudari dari studio Fox yang lebih besar 20th Century Studios, semuanya dimiliki oleh The Walt Disney Company. Ini mengkhususkan diri dalam distribusi Amerika Utara dari film-film Inggris dan independen bersama dengan film-film horor dan dramedi serta film-film art-house dan asing dan terkadang juga melibatkan keuangan dari film-film tersebut.
Sejarah
[sunting | sunting sumber]Searchlight Pictures awalnya didirikan pada tahun 1994 dengan nama Fox Searchlight Pictures oleh Thomas Rothman.[1] sebelum munculnya Searchlight Pictures, awalnya didirikan sebagai 20th Century-Fox International Classics, lalu berganti nama sebagai 20th Century-Fox Specialized Film Division, kemudian TLC Films. Judul film tertentu dalam nama tersebut meliputi Suspiria, Bill Cosby: Himself, Eating Raoul, The Gods Must Be Crazy, Reuben, Reuben, and Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.[4]
Pada tahun 2006, sebuah perusahaan yang bernama Fox Atomic, dibuat untuk memproduksi dan mendistribusi film.[5] Fox Atomic ditutup pada tahun 2009.[6]
Pengakuisisian 21st Century Fox oleh Disney sudah dilakukan pada 20 Maret 2019,[7] termasuk Fox Searchlight.[8]
Pada November 2019, FX dan Fox Searchlight menyepakati untuk membuat konten Hulu.[9] Pada 17 Januari 2020, dilaporkan bahwa nama "Fox" akan dihapus beserta aset-aset Fox yang dibeli Disney, termasuk 20th Century Studios dan diubah namanya menjadi "Searchlight Pictures", agar namanya tidak terikat dengan Fox Corporation.[10][11]
