Fictional character biography

[edit]

Max Modell is the CEO of Horizon Labs, who got Peter Parker a job there after he shut down Sanjani Jaffrey's out-of-control machine.[1] When the Hobgoblin attacks Horizon Labs, Spider-Man saves Modell from the Hobgoblin.[2][3]

At Andru Air Force Base, Modell monitors a rocket launch piloted by John Jameson. At the day of the launch, Modell is present when Alistair Smythe unleashes the Spider-Slayers.[4][5] Modell later talks to Peter and suspects him of being Spider-Man's technological assistant.[6]

During the threat of Massacre, Modell meets with police captain Yuri Watanabe to help her track him down. They additionally discover that Massacre is a former patient of Ashley Kafka.[7][8]

During the "Spider-Island" storyline, Modell works with Mister Fantastic to combat the Jackal's spider mutants in Manhattan.[9][10] Following the Spider Queen's death, Modell thanks his staff for helping combat the infestation.[11][12]

Peter and Modell later coordinate John's mission on the Apogee 1 Station until Juergen Muntz tells them that Doctor Octopus and Mysterio's Octobots have infiltrated the space station. J.J.J. will hold Modell accountable if anything happens to John.[13] As the Apogee 1 station starts to fall to Earth, Modell tells J.J.J. to have faith in Spider-Man.[14]

The "Ends of the Earth" storyline reveals that Modell is openly gay and in a relationship with Horizon Labs' lawyer, Hector Baez. When J.J.J. makes various accusations towards Horizon Labs and plans to shut it down, Hector had to defend Modell and Horizon Labs from the accusations.[15][16][17]

Following Spider-Man stopping Doctor Octopus' plot, Modell and the Horizon Labs team are congratulated for their help in stopping the Sinister Six. They later help Peter find a cure for the Lizard.[18][19][20][21][22]

In "All-New, All-Different Marvel", Spider-Man hires Modell and Baez to run Parker Industries' West Coast operations.[23]

During the "Dead No More: The Clone Conspiracy" storyline, Kaine tells Modell, Hector, and the rest of Horizon University's employees about the Carrion Virus. Their research is disrupted by the Rhino and Electro.[24] After the Carrion Virus is stopped, Modell arrives with S.H.I.E.L.D. and Horizon University personnel to treat the victims.[25]

In the "Go Down Swinging" arc, Modell accepts a job application at Horizon University by Superior Octopus under the alias of Elliot Tolliver.[26][27][28][29][30]
