Phaseolus vulgaris (binomen a Linnaeo anno 1753 constitutum) est species plantarum florentium familiae Fabacearum generisque Phaseoli, bis in America media et australi domesticata, tempore nostro latissime culta propter fructus immaturos (forma phaselorum habentes) seminaque matura.
Phaseolus hic cum Zea mays et Cucurbita spp. ab Americanis indigenis in hortis appellatione "trium sororum(en)" colebatur.[1] In Europam saeculo sexto decimo ineunte introducta est.[2] In media America, semina phaseolorum cum foliis Dysphania ambrosioides, in Asia orientali cum Saccharina japonica coqui solent.
