Richard Henry Major (3 octubre 1818 - 25 juny 1891) va ser un bibliotecari, geògraf i comissari de mapes de la col·lecció del Museu Britànic a partir de 1844 fins a la seva jubilació el 1880. Durant aquest temps va publicar una sèrie de llibres relacionats amb alguns mapes i altres documents d'importància històrica. Reconegut a nivell internacional pels seus treballs en l'àmbit de la geografia, i la cartografia històrica.[1] Des de 1849 fins a 1858 va ser el Secretari de la Hakluyt Society.
