PWI might not own the title, but they are a industry publication for wrestling and their recognition of the title is noteworthy and should remain in this article. WCW claimed the lineage on their website (https://web.archive.org/web/20000817233603/http://www.wcw.com/2000/superstars/world/). Again, the lawsuit was about NWA stopping the title match billing, not the belt, and it failed.

Hornbraker book says it gave them complete control. The judge ruled it valid allowed WCW to continue to bill Rude vs Flair as a world title match, which was what the lawsuit tried to stop. The judge ruled it valid. WCW kept the belt and had a match billed for the world title as planned, but did not use the letters NWA to describe the title. Tag: Reverted
