Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests
Appearance
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.

- To list a technical request: Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.
Technical requests
Uncontroversial technical requests
- Utman Khel Subdivision (currently a redirect to Utman Khel Tehsil) → Utman Khel Tehsil (move · discuss) – WP:MOR consistency with all other Bajauri tehsil articles, more common/familiar name, further disambiguates from Utman Khel tribal subclan RightQuark (talk) 07:56, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- Emmasofia → Psynapse (currently a redirect instead to List of Inhumans) (move · discuss) – The organization changed its name. —Of the universe (say hello) 01:06, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- Do you have any sources indicating this change? We need reliable sources that are independent of the subject which use the new name in the body text, ideally. You can check WP:NAMECHANGES for more info on what to look for. ASUKITE 15:33, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- Kali turgidum (currently a redirect to Salsola kali) → Salsola kali (move · discuss) – Swap. The reason I merged them the way I did was to perserve the history of most of the text in a more easily accessible way, but the target is where the page needs to be. See Talk:Kali turgidum#Salsola kali OrdinaryGiraffe (talk) 23:44, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- 1991 angola tropical storm (currently a redirect to South Atlantic tropical cyclone) → 1991 Angola tropical storm (currently a redirect instead to South Atlantic tropical cyclone) (move · discuss) – capitalization of country name Wikishovel (talk) 23:59, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- Jo Jihun (currently a redirect to Cho Chi-hun) → Cho Chi-hun (move · discuss) – Undiscussed move (see User talk:Spacestationtrustfund#Korean romanization page moves) toobigtokale (talk) 00:06, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
Requests to revert undiscussed moves
Contested technical requests
- Świątek → Świątek (disambiguation) (move · discuss) – Świątek should be redirected to Iga Świątek, and therefore the current disambiguation renamed, as I believe the tennis player is the primary topic. See 1) WikiNav stats, which show almost 100% of outgoing clicks going to Iga Świątek, and 2) pageview analysis for all articles in the disambig, which consistently shows Iga Świątek as most viewed. - This isn't a disambiguation page, it's page about the name. I doubt the tennis player's longterm significance exceeds that of the name itself, some of those listed being centuries old. There is also generally a very high bar for surname only redirects. — Amakuru (talk) 07:26, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, I didn't notice it was a surname template and not a disambig template (or realize those two types are treated differently). Is there a project page that lists the criteria for surname only redirects? --Iiii I I I (talk) 07:59, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
- Agreed. Definitely not uncontroversial. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:21, 19 March 2024 (UTC)

- Wargasm (band) (currently a redirect to Wargasm) → Wargasm (move · discuss) – Wargasm (video game) was the original Wargasm page but switching it to the band as they are way more relevant George (talk) 04:10, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- I've changed the base page to a disambiguation for now, but not sure I'd support a full switch of primary topic. The game seems like it's reasonably notable too. — Amakuru (talk) 07:41, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- A primary topic swap is by definition not uncontroversial. WP:NOPRIMARY is fine. 162 etc. (talk) 21:48, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

controversial (adj.)
1. giving rise or likely to give rise to public disagreement;
2. of or relating to moving an article to a title recently associated with a different article.
- For my part, I'd just say they are almost always potentially controversial.

- Finland–NATO relations → Finland in NATO (currently a redirect back to Finland–NATO relations) (move · discuss) – standardize with other member countries e.g. Canada in NATO RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 20:39, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- This is controversial: see Talk:Croatia–NATO relations#Requested move 4 April 2023. The recent move of Sweden–NATO relations to Sweden in NATO should probably be reverted. Malerisch (talk) 04:20, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- Oh wow! I was unaware of that RM…since almost anyone can revert an undiscussed move I think I’ll wait for someone to come along…although I think given that almost a year has passed since then a new RM targeting “_ and NATO” would be in order.

- Pedro Morales Torres → Pedro Morales (football manager) (currently a redirect back to Pedro Morales Torres) (move · discuss) – WP:COMMONNAME is "Pedro Morales" without maternal surname, dab as per WP:NCSP Ortizesp (talk) 02:52, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- The present title appears in some sources, or satisfies WP:NATURALDIS, and is also the Spanish Wikipedia's title for him. I don't think this is Uncontroversial. — Amakuru (talk) 01:35, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- The Spanish Wiki doesn't have the same rules re COMMONNAME/NATURAL. The present name is hardly ever used in the full form, it's almost always just Pedro Morales. Happy to open a discussion instead. Ortizesp (talk) 13:51, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
