Incorrect "definition" of century
[edit]"The period from 600 to 699" is an incorrect statement that is not supported by sources presented in the Century and Talk:Century pages. This statement should be removed completely, with a simple reference to the 7th century article. Discussion is started at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Years — fcsuper (How's That?, That's How!) - I don't see what you consider incorrect - are you denying that "the 600s" could refer to the period from 600 to 699, analogously with other similar "x00s" terms? (The 7th century is 601 to 700, almost the same but not quite.)
Also I can't find any discussion at the WikiProject talk page, but I may have overlooked it.OK, I see now, it's under "First decade of century", but I still don't really understand what your point is.--Kotniski (talk) 10:17, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry if I wasn't clear. There is no source for the statement "The period from 600 to 699" and for the notion that the term "600s" to represents that period. Even the wikipedia decade (xx10, xx20, xx30, etc) articles are dubious (but some sources do at least support those division of times). — fcsuper (How's That?, That's How!) - It's really just knowledge of English - there may not be a source readily at hand that actually says that the 600s means 600-699, but the expression is certainly widely used in that sense (try Googling it), and we all know what it means, so it seems helpful to readers to explain (a) in what Wikipedia article they can find information about the 600s (i.e. 17th century) and (b) what the slight difference is between those two time periods.--Kotniski (talk) 12:18, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
