A genealogical group, or an ethnic one?

Sources don't seem to support Adi as a valid genealogical group, but just those Eastern Tani languages that are spoken by the Adi people, which is why it has long been a rd to Adi people#Language. Am I wrong? Should it perhaps be moved to 'Eastern Tani languages' or to 'Siang languages'? @Kanguole and Austronesier:. — kwami (talk) 20:31, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Kwamikagami: AFAICS, this is not a genealogical group. I can see nothing in the sources which would support it. @Fdom5997: Adi people speak diverse Tani varieties, but together they do not make up a classificatory unit. Nobody puts Low German and High German into a classificatory unit, just because their speakers identify as Germans. The only meaningful way to present the languages spoken by the Adi is to have individual language articles, and leave the overarching topic as a section in Adi people. –Austronesier (talk) 09:27, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Austronesier understood now. Also part of the reason why I created a separate page for the Padam dialect of the languages of the Adi people. It does make sense to me Fdom5997 (talk) 16:47, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Fdom5997: Padam dialect leans very much on one source, but that's no reason not to have the article. I have to admit, the vowel system as described in Lalrempuii (2005) looks a bit weird, especially the vowel length (I have added it one-to-one from the source). –Austronesier (talk) 17:00, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
