Hi,

I welcome other to amend my English, grammar, spelling mistakes etc, however, I disagree that the contents are being removed simply because the content is unfavoUrable to the subject (and the person amending it is related to the subject). Of course, should the content be unconstructive to general audience, be welcome to make amend but should not be removing the entire content and labeling it as vandalism.

Hello Boonchong chua,

Please find details with links to each policy as below;

1. Neutral point of view Your edits are not written in a neutral point of view (NPOV): A lack of neutrality can be seen in the following language: “it is curious why the company continue to…”, “With such desperation…”, “one may question if…“

2. Verifiability The material is not verifiable and likely to be challenged; it cannot be attributed to a previously published, reliable source.

3. No original research These edits present original thought that serves to advance a position. All material in Wikipedia should be attributable to a previously published source.

Verifiability of Ref 1 & 2

[edit]

The Reference 1 and 2 are used to support the sentence "Agoda.com, reported to be one of Asia’s largest and most popular accommodation booking sites"

Ref 1: the writer wrote "Agoda.com is one of the leading sites for Asia" (This was wrote in Mar 2013) Ref 2: the writer wrote "Agoda is one of the most popular online hotel booking websites around"

Firstly, the original contributor merge the two sentences into one. However, both the writer, Susan Stellin and Michelle Brohier, did not have any reference to support their statement. Furthermore Michelle Brohier only compare Agoda.com, Booking.com and AsiaRooms.com, out of which, Agoda.com and booking.com belong to The Priceline Group. The comparison is serverly limited

Secondly, are the source Reliable? "If an author is an established expert with a previous record of third-party publications on a topic, their self-published work may be considered reliable for that topic" (from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Introduction_to_referencing/4). I do not find the 2 writers fall under this category.

Even in the Agoda.com, there is no mention of it being "one of Asia’s largest and most popular accommodation booking sites", there is also no mention of award given to Agoda. From http://www.worldtravelawards.com, there is also no mention of Agoda.

Is Agoda.com "one of Asia’s largest and most popular accommodation booking sites"

Both links did not mention Agoda.com "specialises in providing discounted room rates". In addition, both website was wrote in 2012 and 2011. No recent source that support the claim of "specialises in providing discounted room rates".

Agoda is based in Singapore?

[edit]

Wrong information? Agoda was found Thailand but become "based in Singapore". Is it an error? Unable to find address of Agoda's Singapore Office which made it even weirder — Preceding unsigned comment added by Boonchong chua (talkcontribs) 12:42, 3 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

please refer to "Verifiability of Ref 1 & 2" under the talk page. By adding a "reported" does not hide your intention of promoting Agoda and misleading reader.

Should Agoda is unhappy with the "vandalism" (which I had been accused of), Agoda can proceed to take action against me. You will be please to note that Agoda has my full details (name, address, email, HP number) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Boonchong chua (talkcontribs) 04:16, 3 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ref 2: the writer wrote "Agoda.com is one of the leading sites for Asia" NOT "one of Asia’s largest and most popular accommodation booking sites". And the article was posted in 2013, we are already in end 2015.

ref 3: "one of the most popular online hotels around". Around what? in the world, US, Europe, asia???

Is it appropriate to merge these 2 statement esp the year was omitted.

What was posted in wiki is misleading/misinforming readers.

A: "I think xxx is popular in this class 2013" B: "I think xxx is smart around here" Conclusion: It is reported that xxx is popular and smart.

Is it a fair conclusion to be used here???

rephrasing of ref but did not retain the original meaning

[edit]

Base on ref 2:"one of the leading sites for Asia" Base on ref 3:"Agoda is one of the most popular online hotel booking websites around"

It was rephrase to "Agoda.com is reported to be one of Asia’s largest and most popular "

There was not mention of largest.

I had raise an issue with ref 3 on the "around", around where? if this "most popular" base on comparing the 3 app or "around here"

Boonchong chua (talk) 02:35, 10 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

15 Oct (on ref 2 & 3)

[edit]

Full Definition of LEADING (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/leading) 1: coming or ranking first : foremost 2: exercising leadership 3: providing direction or guidance <a leading question> 4: given most prominent display <the leading story>

adjective (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/leading) 1.chief; principal; most important; foremost: a leading toy manufacturer. 2.coming in advance of others; first: We rode in the leading car. 3.directing, guiding

No mention of largest (in operation, sales, manpower, base etc) in the ref and clearly not the meaning of leading. Revert to using the original words of ref 2.

Question raise on ref 3. After reading the article, can you conclude that the "one of the most popular online hotel booking websites around" actually refer to ""one of the most popular online hotel booking websites in asia" ?

At the end of the article, we know writer is from RinggitPlus.com and RinggitPlus compares credit cards, personal loans and home loans to help Malaysians get more for their money.

Does it mean the writer was actually referring to Malaysia instead of Asia? If that is the case, then it would be misrepresenting the writer.

To agree on "Agoda.com is reported to be one of Asia’s largest and most popular accommodation booking sites", you would have to agree on these 2 criteria: 1) accept the meaning of "largest" to be the same as "leading" 2) accept that Malaysia is the same as Asia

Unverified information

[edit]

As of 2015, the company has over 2,000 employees worldwide, with offices in Bangkok, Tokyo, Sydney, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Budapest, London and New York.

According to Agoda.com's own website, it states, "Agoda.com employs more than 1,300 travel professionals, representing more than 20 countries. There are major operations in Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, Sydney, Hong Kong, and Budapest, with an additional presence in major cities across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas."

No other sources was cited to verfy the info written by Asheshong. Asheshong had not replied to my message so far.

Is Agoda.com one of the largest travel sites in the world?

[edit]

According to what Asheshong had written "Agoda.com is reported to be one of the largest and most popular online travel sites in the world".

However, when I read through the supporting ref 2,3,4 and 5, there was no mention of Agoda.com to be "one of the largest in the world". Can anyone who is reasonable and logical, draw that conclusion?

It seem that Asheshong had not only rephrase but add in his own personal words to upscale the company.

6 Nov: Response to Largest query

[edit]
  • Thank you for your query on this matter. You questioned the validity of Agoda being one of the largest online travel companies in the world. Included below are some points demonstrating this fact, though I would encourage you to do further research on your own prior to making further edits in this area.
  • It is common knowledge that the world’s two largest online travel companies are The Priceline Group and Expedia Group. Please feel free to do your own research on this.
  • The Priceline Group consists of Booking.com, as well as Agoda.com, among other online travel companies like KAYAK and Rentalcars.com.
  • Expedia Group consists of major brands such as Expedia and Hotels.com. Expedia also owns stakes in smaller brands like AirAsiaExpedia / AirAsiaGo.
  • The market cap of The Priceline Group (NASDAQ: PCLN) exceeds $74.5bil USD, while Expedia Group's market cap is $17.42bil USD, based on today's Bloomberg numbers.
  • Based on these numbers, the major brands under these two online travel giants make up the top 5-6 online travel companies in the world, in terms of size, business, traffic, and other metrics/measurements.
  • References provided in the article validate this fact.
  • This information is derived from simple research which I encourage you to conduct yourself before making tendentious claims and disruptive edits.
  • Your lack of research and evidence of conflict with the company's customer service indicate bias.
  • Please feel free to read more about Wikipedia:Disruptive Editing and Wikipedia:Neutral point of view to avoid a report which may result in an indefinite ban.

10 Jan: Response to clarification on Largest

[edit]

If a company is part of a Group then does it automatically mean it is one of the largest? Then booking.com, agoda.com, Expedia and Hotels.com are all "one of the largest" since they belong to a Group, then may I ask who else is small? So can you show that Agoda.com alone is on among the top. Since you are able to privide so facts, surely you, as a employe of Agoda.com, are able to provide evidence to sustain your points.

Defintion of "one of the most popular"

[edit]

Kindly define what is "one of the most popular"? As we know, "popular" does not have a clear definition, it is a very subjective. "one of the most popular" is even more vague. Is there a clear method which Asheshong, Agoda's employee, used to define "one of the most popular. Or is he putting his own opinion? From which point will the rank be not include in "one of the most popular"?

[2] ref - rank 6th. How to define 6th is "one of the most popular"? which rank below will not be consider? [3] ref - "one of the leading sites for Asia", apparently does not apply to the world. [4] ref - "Agoda is one of the most popular online hotel booking websites around" apply to Malaysia and not the world [5] ref - "Agoda.com (focused on Asia)". Once again show it is mainly in asia and not in the world.

Asheshong had been very subjective and form his own conclusion on "one of the most popular". I had dropped him a message last week but no response from him.

Conflicting Agoda's establishment date

[edit]

According to Agoda.com website, the company was founded in 2005.

However, in an article (http://www.agoda.com/en-sg/info/agoda-news-celebratestenyears.html),it seemed to be founded earlier.

refer to the second last paragraph,

"During 2003, Kenny launched PrecisionReservations.com, a website that sells through affiliate business partners. More than 1,000 websites use PrecisionReservations.com for hotel reservations. That same year, PlanetHoliday.com and PrecisionReservations.com became part of Agoda Company Pte. Ltd., which Kenny founded with longtime friend and internet operations specialist Robert Rosenstein, who came on as Chief Operating Officer"

also refering to http://tech.co/agoda-2012-02

Founded in 2002, Bangkok-based Agoda was acquired five years later by Priceline (which is 2007)

There seem to be a conflicting information of the founding year.

Boonchong chua (talk) 09:55, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Boonchong chua, I am still not sure when the company "Agoda Company Pte Ltd" was started, but I do know that the website was created around January 2007. (http://www.agoda.com/en-sg/info/agoda-news-celebratestenyears.html) "Agoda plans an official release of their new flagship site, agoda.com, in January 2007."

Citation for timeshare expansion

[edit]

The last sentence of the article, "Also, agoda is one of the few travel agencies that is venturing into the purchase of Timeshare memberships for inventory.", is cited with: http://e27.co/agoda-com-set-on-penetrating-the-indonesian-market-more-through-localization/

That article does not have any information abut timeshares.
