Payload

[edit]

The payload to LEO is listed as 1,400 kg. But the payload to GTO is listed as greater, at 1850 kg. How can the latter payload be greater than the former? It contradicts Tsiolkovsky's rocket equation.--Solomonfromfinland (talk) 17:10, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

They're playing games, as it says in the text. The 1850 kg includes the fourth stage rocket, which transfers the payload to the geosynchronous orbit. So we don't really know what the true GTO payload is. It also isn't clear what the 1400 kg LEO payload means or includes. Even more games can be played there; there is no such thing as a single "LEO"; the payload is strongly dependent both on the apogee/perigee, and the orbital inclination.
