Fair use rationale for Image:DCElogo.jpg
[edit]Image:DCElogo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit]"Mio." is not a well-known abbreviation for "million".
Added "ROI" because movies are business and the return to the investors is what really drives production decisions. Quite a few of the movies from this production house are pretty low-brow, pulpy films but their financial success cannot be argued. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.178.49.17 (talk) 18:28, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Proposed updates
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hi, I work for Dark Castle Entertainment. I noticed that the current page is outdated and is lacking a number of sources. In order to update the information on the page while simultaneously adding the missing citations and removing unsourced material, I thought it would be easiest to propose a rewrite of the article. You can see my suggestions by clicking below.

Dark Castle Entertainment is a film, TV, and digital projects production label.[2] It is owned by North American sports and entertainment company, OEG Inc.[3] The firm is led by co-CEOs Hal Sadoff[4] and Norman Golightly.[5]
History[edit]1998 — 2003: Homage to William Castle, the early years[edit]Dark Castle was founded in 1998[9] by Joel Silver, Robert Zemeckis, and Gilbert Adler.[10] The Dark Castle name pays homage to William Castle, a 1950’s horror filmmaker from the 1950s and 1960s.[11] When first formed, the goal of the company was to remake Castle’s horror films. After two remakes, House on Haunted Hill[12] and Thirteen Ghosts,[13] they moved on to producing original material,[14] along with remakes of non-Castle films.[15] 2003 — 2013: More horror, action[edit]Gothika, starring Halle Berry and Robert Downey Jr., was Dark Castle’s first original film in 2003.[16] They followed it up with House of Wax, the company’s first remake of a non-Castle film.[17][18] In 2008, the company moved beyond the horror genre to produce the action film RocknRolla.[19] Dark Castle released Orphan, a psychological horror film, in 2009.[20] The film grossed $80 million on a $20 million budget.[21] The company produced its first martial arts film, Ninja Assassin, later that year.[22] In 2010, they produced action film adaptions of The Losers based on the DC Vertigo comic of the same name,[23] and Unknown starring Liam Neeson, which grossed $136 million against its $30 million budget.[24] After a long relationship with Warner Bros. Pictures as their main distributor,[25] Dark Castle began working with other distributors including Paramount Pictures[26] and Shudder/AMC.[27] 2015—Present: New ownership and commercial success[edit]Dark Castle was acquired by Daryl Katz of OEG Inc. in 2015.[28][29] Hal Sadoff was named CEO.[30] The company released its first film under OEG the following year, neo noir comedy crime movie The Nice Guys, starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling.[31] Next, Dark Castle produced black comedy crime film Suburbicon written by the Coen Brothers, directed by George Clooney, starring Matt Damon and Julianne Moore.[32][33] In 2018, Dark Castle produced Superfly,[34] a remake of the 1972 film Super Fly.[35] Dark Castle continued to produce horror films, including Seance, starring Suki Waterhouse,[36] and the prequel to Orphan, Orphan: First Kill, starring Isabelle Fuhrman from the original Orphan movie.[37] In 2020, the company began producing television with the sci-fi horror series The Expecting. [38] Dark Castle produced Last Breath, which is based on the critically acclaimed documentary Last Breath (2019 film) and stars Woody Harrelson and Simu Liu.[39] In 2023, the company filmed Old Guy starring Christoph Waltz,[40] and financed the film Shell, starring Elizabeth Moss and Kate Hudson, directed by Max Minghella.[41] Filmography[edit]Lifetime grosses[edit]

I hope you'll take a look and consider replacing the existing page with this updated version. Thanks in advance for your assistance, DJ for Katz (talk) 15:33, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
@DJ for Katz: this seems to be a good format. I'm not sure why it'd be controversial, as I didn't see many changes between you proposal and the current page.--DisneyMetalhead (talk) 03:12, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- Woops, I just realized I was logged into an old account that I've since discontinued. What I meant to post was:
Thanks, DisneyMetalhead. I didn't think anything was controversial, but because of my conflict of interest I wanted to make sure to run it by the community first. I'm happy to make the changes to the article directly if that's ok with you, otherwise, do you mind implementing? Thanks for taking the time to read through the request. DJ for Katz (talk) 16:00, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the conversation, DisneyMetalhead. I have made the changes.DJ for Katz (talk) 16:25, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
- DisneyMetalhead did not give explicit permisssion to make these changes, so I have reverted them. Quetstar (talk) 20:49, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- @DJ for Katz Not a bad rewrite (and definitely overall an improvement!), but I'm noticing a couple issues here:
- 1. Several citations to IMDB, which isn't a reliable source. Can you replace those with something which isn't user generated?
- 2. "The company has worked with directors such as Guy Ritchie, Shane Black, George Clooney, Mary Harron, Walter Hill, and Simon Barrett." in the lead seems like undue weight, I'd remove it.
- 3. I notice that "While most of the company's films were initially poorly reviewed by critics, their 2009 film Splice eventually received better reviews" is removed from the original. I understand that this was uncited, but as you are a COI editor I am slightly uncomfortable approving a change that removes possibly accurate negative information. Are there citations for the overall receptions of the company's films, whether positive or negative?
- If the above 3 changes are made I'm happy to call this approved, or if the first two are made and the editor confirms that they looked for sources on the reception and couldn't find anything. Rusalkii (talk) 20:17, 11 July 2024 (UTC)

- Rusalkii, I really appreciate your input.
- 1. Re the IMDB citations - I genuinely did not know what to do with this filmography chart. I didn't create it - it is currently listed on the page without proper sourcing. I wanted to preserve as much of the list as I could while including sources, but aside from IMDB, not all the films have great source material. I have updated the draft to add better sourcing wherever I could, but some of the films only have third party sourcing from questionable publications (such as https://screenrant.com/dark-castle-entertainment-ranked-best-worst/ and https://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Video_Clips/Warner/Video_Warner_Previews_Interactive_Features_on_Haunted_Hill_Blu-ray_HD_DVD_/908). I wasn't sure if I should remove the chart from my draft completely, or leave it in with IMDB and other sources. I trust your judgment - if you think the chart should be changed so that the page can be updated, then feel free to go ahead and make the edits you see fit.
- 2. I removed the sentence about the directors as you suggested.
- 3. I understand your concern about the removed sentence. I removed it because it was unsourced, and the closest thing I found to the removed sentence in the sources is the following quote from the screenrant article that I shared above - I don't know how reliable a publication it is, but if you would like to use it in the article that is fine with me.:
- While most of Dark Castle Entertainment’s films haven’t received glowing reviews from critics, many of them have modest ratings from viewers who enjoy them for what they are: a time capsule of early 2000s-era horror films. While the acting is cheesy and the special effects look very… of their time, there are quite a few of them that are great fun, however, choosing the right one is key.
- Thank you for taking the time to review my edits - I hope you'll consider tweaking them to your liking and implementing them to improve the page. Thanks, DJ for Katz (talk) 15:05, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
- Done Screenrant is an okay source, I'd use it in the absence of anything else. However I'm not entirely sure how to work it into the draft as it stands, ideally you'd have a "reception" section or similar but I can't find any other material for it. I'm going to publish this as-is (made a few minor tweaks) so the request doesn't languish forever and see what I can do with it later.
Re: IMDB & other poor quality sources, I'm leaving it for now because it's an improvement over the previous and the information isn't controversial (and honestly could just be cited to the movie credit themselves, if anyone would take the trouble to actually check them). Rusalkii (talk) 21:53, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you Rusalkii, I think the page looks great. I really appreciate your help. DJ for Katz (talk) 15:47, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
