Minor skirmishes

[edit]

A user keeps adding material on minor pastoralist disputes between Somali and Kamba herders in the Eastern Province, where not many Somalis live in the first place. There is also no corresponding link-through article on this topic. If we are to include every such minor skirmish (e.g. that between the Maasai and Kikuyu [1]), this article would be interminable because conflict is a daily part of life in Kenya. Only the major ethnic conflicts with corresponding articles should be included. Middayexpress (talk) 16:33, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Definition of Minor Skirmish

[edit]

The article is specifically about ethnic conflict (its causes, instances and effects) not general daily conflict. Significance of the a conflict can be measured by immediate impact (death, injury and displacement),duration of the conflict and long term effect on the population. Refer to the citations in the main article to judge the significance. It cannot be defined as a minor dispute with several deaths and over 2000 displaced in a conflict lasting over a 2 years.--Kenyabook (talk) 21:00, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

An ethnic conflict is defined as "conflict between ethnic groups often as a result of ethnic nationalism and ethnic hatred[...] They are of interest because of the apparent prevalence since the Cold War and because they frequently result in war crimes such as genocide." The Garissa Massacre, Wagalla massacre, and 2012-2013 clashes in Nairobi and Garissa... these are ethnic conflicts. Not petty, common skirmishes over pastureland and/or livestock.
