Merging with Hursid Pasha / Ahmad Khurshid Pasha

[edit]

It's the same person, with different transcription of the name.--Phso2 (talk) 12:59, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes.

Hurşid Ahmed Paşa: Üçüncü Selim devri Mısır valilerinden ve İkinci Mahmud devri vezir-a'zamlarından (Governor of the Province of Egypt during the Selim III period and grand vezir during the Mahmud II period)[1]. Takabeg (talk) 09:53, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agree, for Hurşid Ahmed Pasha. Constantine 10:21, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe common use in English is this = Khurshid Ahmed Pasha. Takabeg (talk) 13:57, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't call eight results evidence of overwhelmingly "common usage". The "Kh" should IMO be avoided, it does not appear in the modern Turkish transliteration either. Whether we use "ş" or "sh" in his name is relatively trivial, but more recent scholarship does tend to adopt the Turkish orthography (which is why I proposed the form above). Anyway Hurşid Ahmed Pasha is not common use. bak :) Takabeg (talk) 14:09, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hurshid Ahmed Pasha -> 1 hit Takabeg (talk) 14:11, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(unindent)If in Turkish his name is Hurşid Ahmed Paşa, then in English that becomes Hurşid/Hurshid Ahmed Pasha. It is the most simple & commonly accepted method of transliteration, and a couple results more or less in favour of other transliteration methods doesn't really mean much. Either way, the "Ahmed" part is most often dropped: 143 hits for "Hurshid Pasha" and 69 hits for "Hursid Pasha". Constantine 15:42, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
