We need to be careful with this article because there was another clerical John Clowes in Manchester around the same time. That one was a fellow of Manchester Collegiate Church, was closely related to the Clowes family after whom Great Clowes Street is named and seems to have lived in Broughton, which was pretty central to that family's activities.
