I read he died like this:

After performing at the City Auditorium in Houston, late in the evening, Ace, by that time very drunk, fired a .22 calibre revolver at his girlfriend, Olivia Gibbs. He then fired at her terrified friend Mary Carter, but on both occaisions the gun failed to go off. Ace promtly aimed the revolver at himself, and at a third squeeze of the trigger, a violent close-quarters explosion ended his life.

A subsequent inquest ruled that Johnny Ace had died playing Russian Roulette.

If no one puts up any proof to the contrary in the next 48 hours, I'm putting this on the article. Sergeant snopake 17:46 23/03/06

Um, amused himself with a game of Russian Roulette? Not the way I heard it, and what's more, that just sounds weird, as if he was 'playing God', and had his own personal game of Russian Roulette going. He tried to kill his girlfriend and her friend. That's no game. The inquest ruled roulette, that's not what happend. Sergeant Snopake 22:31, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Suicide?

[edit]

If Ace was indeed playing "Russian roulette" - although thoroughly stupid & irresponsible - can it really be considered a suicide? Michael David 02:45, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a guy who says he interviewed Willie Mae about this subject: [1]. It sounds more like a very bad mistake to me. Doesn't sound like intentional suicide, and I feel that I should change the Wikipedia page, but I want to check with Charles Sawyer (the author of the article) before I do it. Lost Song?

[edit]

Did no matter who intend to speak about a way marked “Alice was a man”? I found some papers in my attic of grandmothers that the other day one of them was an insertion for a small vinyl disc. Unfortunately the disc itself was absent. I would be interested to find this way, as the name resounds really strange for the EC of the artists other types of music.

What happened to the wife and children of Johnny Ace?

[edit]

Is there any documented information about what happened to the wife and children of Johnny Ace after his death? Did anyone watch out for them financially? Did his wife remarry? Have more children? If his first daughter is still alive she is 74 this year. Does anybody know? Does anybody care? 2603:800C:3A40:6400:9846:247D:35B:9B93 (talk) 02:11, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure but there was some missing information on the article. He has another son named Larry Saunders (died 2012) who was also a singer known for his 1974 hit "On the Real Side". Larry is the biological father of singer Ledisi. There is a story about Johnny Ace's family reaching to Ledisi.[2] Sackkid (talk) 04:07, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
